How to Use

Dosage

The usual recommended starting dose is 4 mg once a day, but your doctor will decide the right dose for you.

Method

Do not break, open, or chew the capsules. Swallow the capsules whole with water. You can take them with or without food, around the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor will determine your maximum daily dose, usually starting with 4 mg daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath, lung infections (like pneumonia or bronchitis), infections of the nose, sinuses, and throat, flu-like symptoms.
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia) causing tiredness and weakness.
  • Low potassium levels causing weakness, muscle cramps, muscle pain, fast heartbeat, tingling or numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes.
  • High blood sugar.
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation).
  • Loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain.
  • Lack of energy, difficulty sleeping or staying asleep, dizziness, trembling.
  • Muscle spasms, muscle weakness, bone pain, back pain.
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensation in the skin, pain in hands or feet due to nerve damage.
  • Swelling in the body (including arms and legs), rashes, urinary tract infections (burning sensation when urinating, frequent urination).
  • Falls, bleeding in the head, impaired movement or sensation in limbs due to nerve damage, spinning sensation (vertigo), fluid retention, hives, skin itching, shingles.
  • Heart attack (chest pain, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, or vomiting), chest pain, lung or bronchial infection.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Low blood cell counts (red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets) leading to tiredness, weakness, shortness of breath, and higher risk of bleeding, bruising, and infections.
  • Low magnesium levels, which can cause tiredness, weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, and numbness/tingling in hands, feet, or lips.
  • Low phosphate levels, causing muscle weakness, irritability, or confusion.
  • High calcium levels, causing slow reflexes and weak muscles.
  • High potassium levels, which may cause irregular heartbeats.
  • Low sodium levels, causing tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures, or coma.
  • High uric acid levels, which may cause gout (a type of arthritis).
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or fainting.
  • Mouth pain or dry mouth, changes in taste, abdominal swelling, confusion, depression, loss of consciousness (fainting).
  • Blurred vision (cataract), kidney damage, inability to urinate, abnormal liver tests, pelvic pain, weight loss.
RARE
  • Stroke.
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause itchy skin, yellow skin and whites of eyes, pale stools, dark urine, and stomach pain.
  • Breakdown of cancer cells (tumor lysis syndrome), leading to toxic substances in the blood and possibly kidney problems.
  • Underactive thyroid, causing symptoms like tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain.
  • Rejection of transplanted organs (such as heart or liver).

Important Warnings

  • Pomalidomide Grindeks can cause severe birth defects and might lead to the death of an unborn baby. Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. You must follow birth control advice.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had blood clots, as this medicine increases the risk of them.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had severe allergic reactions to similar medicines (like thalidomide or lenalidomide), with symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, or trouble breathing.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had heart problems (like a heart attack, heart failure, high blood pressure), breathing difficulties, or if you smoke.

  • Tell your doctor if you have a large amount of tumors in your body, as this can cause a condition called tumor lysis syndrome, which might harm your kidneys or heart rhythm.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had nerve damage (neuropathy) that causes tingling or pain in your hands or feet.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had a hepatitis B infection, as this medicine can cause the virus to become active again.
  • Be aware that patients taking pomalidomide for multiple myeloma may develop other types of cancer.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get blurred vision, loss of vision, speech problems, weakness in an arm or leg, changes in walking, balance problems, numbness, memory loss, or confusion, as these could be signs of a serious brain disease (PML).
  • If you feel tired, dizzy, weak, confused, or less alert, do not drive or use tools or machines.
