How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose of Pomalidomide Grindeks is 4 mg per day, but your doctor may change it.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not break, open, or chew them. You can take them with or without food, around the same time each day.

Important

The usual daily dose is 4 mg, but your doctor will tell you your specific maximum dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia and bronchitis)
  • Nose, sinus, and throat infections (bacterial or viral)
  • Flu-like symptoms (influenza)
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia), causing tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium in the blood (hypokalemia), causing weakness, muscle cramps, palpitations, tingling, numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar levels
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Lack of energy
  • Difficulty falling asleep or waking up frequently
  • Dizziness, tremors
  • Muscle spasms, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensation on the skin, pain in hands or feet (peripheral sensory neuropathy)
  • Swelling in the body, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection, which may cause burning when urinating or increased need to urinate
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Reduced movement or sensation in hands, arms, feet, and legs due to nerve damage (peripheral sensorimotor neuropathy)
  • Numbness, itching, and tingling on the skin (paresthesia)
  • Spinning sensation in the head, making it hard to stand or move normally
  • Swelling caused by fluid retention
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Itchy skin
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading to arms, neck, or jaw – you might feel sweaty, short of breath, sick, or vomit)
  • Chest pain, lung or bronchial infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Low red and white blood cells and platelets (pancytopenia), making you tired, weak, short of breath, and prone to bleeding, bruising, and infections
  • Reduced number of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection (lymphopenia)
  • Low magnesium in the blood (hypomagnesemia), causing tiredness, general weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, and may lead to low calcium levels, numbness/tingling, muscle weakness, drunkenness, or confusion
  • Low phosphate in the blood (hypophosphatemia), causing muscle weakness, irritability, or confusion
  • High calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia), causing slower reflexes and skeletal muscle weakness
  • High potassium in the blood, which can cause an abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low sodium in the blood, which can cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures (epileptic seizures), and coma
  • High uric acid in the blood, which can cause a type of arthritis called gout
  • Low blood pressure, which can cause dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Taste changes
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataract)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause itchy skin, yellow skin/eyes, pale stools, dark urine, and stomach pain
  • Breakdown of cancer cells, releasing toxic substances into the blood (tumor lysis syndrome), which can lead to kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid, which can cause tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can cause severe birth defects and might harm or kill an unborn baby. Do not take if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or plan to get pregnant.
  • You must follow strict birth control rules while taking this medicine and for some time after.
  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients in this medicine, or to similar medicines like thalidomide or lenalidomide.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had blood clots before, as this medicine increases your risk of getting them.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had a heart attack, heart failure, breathing problems, smoke, or have high blood pressure or cholesterol.

  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had nerve damage (neuropathy), which causes tingling or pain in your hands or feet.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had a Hepatitis B infection, as this medicine can make the virus active again.
  • Seek medical help right away if you get a severe skin reaction with rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, or problems with organs.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you notice changes in vision, speech, arm or leg weakness, balance problems, memory loss, or confusion, as these could be signs of a serious brain disease called PML.
  • Do not break, open, or chew the capsules. If powder from a broken capsule touches your skin, wash it immediately with soap and water. Healthcare providers and family members should wear gloves when handling the blister packs or capsules.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children or adolescents under 18 years old.
