How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 4 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. You can take them with or without food, around the same time each day. Do not break, open, or chew the capsules.

Important

Always follow your doctor's instructions for the daily dose. Do not take more than your doctor prescribes.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (like pneumonia or bronchitis)
  • Nose, sinus, and throat infections (bacterial or viral)
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Low red blood cells (anemia), causing tiredness and weakness
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or feeling sick (nausea)
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Lack of energy
  • Trouble sleeping or waking up often
  • Dizziness, trembling (tremor)
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensation on the skin, pain in hands or feet (nerve damage)
  • Swelling in the body, including arms and legs
  • Rashes on the skin
  • Urinary tract infection, which can cause burning when urinating or needing to urinate often
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause itchy skin, yellow skin/eyes (jaundice), light-colored stool, dark urine, and stomach pain
  • Underactive thyroid, which can cause tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can cause severe birth defects or death to an unborn baby. Do not take it if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. You must follow strict birth control rules.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients in it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had blood clots, as this medicine increases the risk of new blood clots.
  • This medicine can lower your white blood cell and platelet counts, making you more prone to infections and bleeding. Your doctor will do blood tests regularly.
