How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose is 4 mg per day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not break, open, or chew them. You can take them with or without food, at about the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia, bronchitis)
  • Nose, sinus, and throat infections
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia), causing tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium in blood, causing tiredness, muscle cramps, muscle pain, heart palpitations, tingling or numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Lack of energy (tiredness)
  • Difficulty sleeping or waking up often
  • Dizziness, tremor
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensation in the skin, pain in hands or feet (nerve damage in extremities)
  • Body swelling, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection, causing burning when urinating or needing to urinate more often
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Reduced movement or sensation in hands, arms, feet, and legs due to nerve damage
  • Numbness, itching, and tingling in the skin (paresthesia)
  • Spinning sensation in the head (vertigo), which can make it hard to stand or move normally
  • Fluid retention
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Skin itching
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack (chest pain radiating to arms, neck, jaw, with sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, or vomiting)
  • Chest pain, lung or bronchial infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Decrease in red, white blood cells and platelets simultaneously (pancytopenia), leading to more bleeding, bruising, tiredness, weakness, shortness of breath, and infections
  • Decreased number of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection (lymphopenia)
  • Low magnesium in blood, causing tiredness, general weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, and potentially low calcium (leading to numbness/tingling, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, dizziness or weakness, confusion)
  • Low phosphate in blood, causing muscle weakness and irritability or confusion
  • High calcium in blood, causing slower reflexes and weakness in skeletal muscles
  • High potassium in blood, which may cause abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low sodium in blood, which may cause tiredness and confusion, muscle twitching, seizures (epileptic fits), or coma
  • High uric acid in blood, which may cause gout (arthritis)
  • Low blood pressure, which may cause dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Changes in taste
  • Abdominal swelling
  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataract)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause itchy skin, yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice), light stools, dark urine, and abdominal pain
  • Breakdown of cancer cells releasing toxic substances into the blood (tumor lysis syndrome), which can lead to kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), which can cause symptoms like tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can cause severe birth defects or death to an unborn baby. Do not take it if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. Both men and women must use reliable birth control during treatment.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had blood clots, heart problems, or high blood pressure, as this medicine can increase the risk.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had Hepatitis B, as this medicine can make the virus active again.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop a severe widespread rash, high fever, swollen lymph nodes, or symptoms affecting other organs.
