How to Use

Dosage

The typical starting dose is 4 mg daily. Your doctor may adjust the dose if needed.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. You can take them with or without food. Do not break, open, or chew the capsules. Take the capsules at roughly the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor will tell you the correct dose. Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia and bronchitis)
  • Bacterial or viral infections of the nose, sinuses, and throat
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Low red blood cell count, leading to fatigue and weakness (anemia)
  • Low blood potassium, causing weakness, muscle cramps, muscle pain, palpitations, tingling or numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Tiredness
  • Difficulty sleeping or waking
  • Dizziness, tremor
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensation in the skin, pain in hands or feet (nerve damage)
  • Body swelling, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection, causing burning during urination or frequent urination
COMMON
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Impaired movement or sensation in hands, arms, feet, and legs due to nerve damage
  • Numbness, itching, and a feeling of pins and needles in the skin (paresthesia)
  • Dizziness (vertigo), making it difficult to stand up or move normally
  • Swelling caused by fluid retention
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Skin itching
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading to arms, neck, jaw, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, or vomiting)
  • Chest pain, lung or bronchial infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Simultaneous decrease in red, white blood cells, and platelets (pancytopenia), making you more prone to bleeding, bruising, fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, and infections
  • Decreased lymphocyte count (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection (lymphopenia)
  • Low blood magnesium, causing fatigue, general weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, and potentially low blood calcium (hypocalcemia), leading to numbness/tingling in hands, feet, or lips, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, dizziness, weakness, and confusion
  • Low blood phosphate, causing muscle weakness, irritability, or confusion
  • High blood calcium, causing slower reflexes and weakness in skeletal muscles
  • High blood potassium, causing abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low blood sodium, causing fatigue, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures, and coma
  • High blood uric acid, causing gout (a type of arthritis)
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Taste changes
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataract)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver function test results
  • Pelvic pain

RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), causing itchy skin, yellow skin and eyes, pale stools, dark urine, and abdominal pain
  • Cancer cell breakdown (tumor lysis syndrome), releasing toxic substances into the bloodstream, which can lead to kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid, causing symptoms like tiredness, lethargy, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, as Pomalidomide Bioglan is expected to harm the unborn baby.
  • Strictly follow contraception guidelines during and after treatment if you can become pregnant or father a child.
  • Do not take if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients in this medicine. Tell your doctor if you suspect an allergy.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had blood clots before, as this medicine can increase the risk of blood clots.
  • Stop taking the medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you develop a widespread rash, high fever, enlarged lymph nodes, or other symptoms of severe skin reactions (such as DRESS, TEN, SJS).

  • Tell your doctor if you have had Hepatitis B infection, as it can reactivate during treatment with this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had nerve damage, such as tingling or pain in your hands or feet.
  • If you experience tiredness, dizziness, or confusion, do not drive or operate machinery.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a high tumor burden, as this medicine can cause a condition where cancer cells break down and lead to kidney damage.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience blurred vision, speech difficulties, weakness, or confusion during or after treatment, as these could be signs of a serious brain disease.
  • Do not donate blood during treatment or for 7 days after treatment. Do not donate sperm during treatment or for 7 days after treatment.
