How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose for Pomalidomid Devatis is 4 mg daily.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water, with or without food, at about the same time each day. Do not break, open, or chew the capsules.

Important

The typical maximum daily dose is 4 mg, but your doctor will determine the exact amount based on your health.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia and bronchitis)
  • Bacterial or viral infections of the nose, sinuses, and throat
  • Flu-like symptoms (influenza)
  • Low red blood cell count, leading to anemia, tiredness, and weakness
  • Low potassium levels in the blood, causing weakness, muscle cramps, muscle pain, palpitations, tingling or numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar levels
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Decreased appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Lack of energy
  • Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Dizziness, trembling
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning sensation in the skin, pain in hands or feet (peripheral sensory neuropathy)

  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading to arms, neck, jaw, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea, or vomiting)
  • Chest pain, lung or bronchial infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Simultaneous decrease in red and white blood cells and platelets (pancytopenia), leading to increased bleeding and bruising. You may feel tired, weak, and short of breath, and be more prone to infections.
  • Decreased number of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection (lymphopenia)
  • Low magnesium levels in the blood, causing tiredness, general weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, and can lead to low calcium levels, causing numbness/tingling in hands, feet or lips, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, dizziness or confusion
  • Low phosphate levels in the blood, causing muscle weakness, irritability, or confusion
  • High calcium levels in the blood, causing slower reflexes and weakness in skeletal muscles
  • High potassium levels in the blood, which can cause abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low sodium levels in the blood, which can cause tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures (epileptic attacks), or coma
  • High uric acid levels in the blood, which can cause a form of arthritis called gout
  • Low blood pressure, which may cause dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Changes in taste
  • Abdominal swelling
  • Confusion

  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataract)

RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause itchy skin, yellowing of skin and whites of eyes (jaundice), pale stools, dark urine, and abdominal pain
  • Breakdown of cancer cells releasing toxic substances into the bloodstream (tumour lysis syndrome), which can lead to kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism), which can cause symptoms such as tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, might be pregnant, or planning to get pregnant, as it can harm an unborn baby.
  • You must follow strict birth control guidelines during treatment and for a period after, even if you are male, as the medicine can pass into semen.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had blood clots before, as this medicine can increase the risk.
  • Inform your doctor if you have heart problems, breathing issues, smoke, or have high blood pressure or cholesterol.

  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had a Hepatitis B infection, as the virus can reactivate.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience severe skin reactions like widespread rash, red skin, high fever, flu-like symptoms, or swollen lymph nodes.
  • Be aware that patients treated for multiple myeloma with pomalidomide may develop other types of cancer.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice vision changes, speech difficulties, weakness in arms or legs, balance problems, numbness, memory loss, or confusion, as these could be signs of a serious brain condition.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel tired, dizzy, weak, confused, or less alert.
