How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 4 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with water. Do not break, open, or chew it. You can take it with or without food, but try to take it at the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose for you.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Infections, such as chest infections (like pneumonia), nose, sinus, or throat infections
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Low red blood cells (anemia), causing tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium in blood, which can cause tiredness, muscle cramps, and heart issues
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast and irregular heartbeat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain or abdominal swelling
  • Feeling very tired or weak
  • Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Dizziness or shaking (tremor)
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness, bone pain, or back pain
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning in hands or feet (nerve damage)
  • Swelling in the body, including arms and legs (fluid retention)
  • Rashes, hives, itching, or shingles
  • Urinary tract infection, causing burning when urinating or needing to urinate often
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Heart attack symptoms (chest pain, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea)
  • High blood pressure
  • Low counts of red, white blood cells, and platelets (pancytopenia), making you tired, weak, short of breath, and more prone to bleeding, bruising, and infections
  • Changes in blood test results (e.g., low magnesium, low phosphate, high calcium, high potassium, high uric acid), which can cause various symptoms like tiredness, confusion, or muscle problems
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or fainting
  • Mouth pain or dry mouth, changes in taste
  • Confusion, sadness (depression), fainting, blurred vision (cataracts)
  • Kidney damage or inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis) causing itchy skin, yellow skin/eyes, light stools, dark urine, and stomach pain
  • Tumor lysis syndrome (cancer cells breaking down and releasing harmful substances, leading to kidney problems)
  • Underactive thyroid, causing tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, might be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, as it can harm an unborn baby.
  • Both men and women must use effective birth control during treatment and for a period after.
  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any similar medicines (like thalidomide or lenalidomide) or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Be aware that this medicine can increase your risk of blood clots. Your doctor may prescribe other medicines to prevent this.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get a severe skin rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, or flu-like symptoms, as these can be signs of a serious allergic reaction.

  • If you have had hepatitis B, this medicine could make the virus active again. Your doctor will check for this.
  • Patients taking this medicine for multiple myeloma may have a higher risk of developing other types of cancer. Your doctor will discuss the benefits and risks with you.
  • Tell your doctor right away if you notice any changes in your vision, speech, strength in your arms or legs, balance, numbness, or memory, as these could be signs of a serious brain condition (PML).
