How to Use

Dosage

Take 4 mg of Pomalidomid Avansor daily. Your doctor will tell you the exact dose of other medicines you might take with it.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water, with or without food, around the same time each day. Do not break, open, or chew them.

Important

The recommended starting daily dose for Pomalidomid Avansor is 4 mg. Your doctor may change this dose based on your condition.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (pneumonia and bronchitis)
  • Nose, sinus, and throat bacterial or viral infections
  • Flu-like symptoms (influenza)
  • Low red blood cell count, which can lead to anemia, and thus fatigue and weakness
  • Low potassium levels in the blood, which can cause fatigue, muscle cramps, muscle pain, palpitations, tingling or numbness, shortness of breath, and mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Rapid and irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Decreased appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea or nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty falling asleep or waking up
  • Dizziness, tremor
  • Muscle cramps, muscle weakness
  • Bone pain, back pain
  • Numbness, tingling or burning sensation in the skin, pain in hands or feet (peripheral sensory neuropathy)
  • Swelling in the body, including arms and legs
  • Rashes
  • Urinary tract infection, which can cause a burning sensation when urinating or a need to urinate more often
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Reduced movement or sensation in hands, arms, feet, and legs due to nerve damage (peripheral sensorimotor neuropathy)
  • Numbness, itching, and a pins-and-needles sensation in the skin (paresthesia)
  • A spinning sensation in the head that makes it difficult to stand up and move normally
  • Swelling caused by fluid retention
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Itchy skin
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading to arms, neck, or jaw, you may feel sweaty and short of breath, nauseous or vomit)
  • Chest pain
  • Lung or bronchial infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Decrease in red and white blood cells and platelets (pancytopenia), making you more prone to bleeding and bruising, fatigue, weakness, shortness of breath, and more susceptible to infections
  • Decreased number of lymphocytes (a type of white blood cell), often caused by infection (lymphopenia)
  • Low magnesium levels in blood (hypomagnesemia), which can cause fatigue, general weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, and may lead to low calcium levels in blood (hypocalcemia), causing numbness/tingling in hands, feet, or lips, muscle cramps, muscle weakness, feeling intoxicated, confusion
  • Low phosphate levels in blood (hypophosphatemia), which can cause muscle weakness and irritability or confusion
  • High calcium levels in blood (hypercalcemia), which can cause slower reflexes and weakness in skeletal muscles
  • High potassium levels in blood, which can cause abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low sodium levels in blood, which can cause fatigue and confusion, muscle twitching, seizures (epileptic attacks), and coma
  • High uric acid levels in blood, which can cause a type of arthritis called gout
  • Low blood pressure, which can cause dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Taste changes
  • Swollen abdomen
  • Confusion
  • Low mood
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Clouding of the eye's lens (cataracts)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate

RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis) which can cause itchy skin, yellowing of skin and whites of eyes (jaundice), light-colored stool, dark urine, and abdominal pain
  • Breakdown of cancer cells leading to the release of toxic substances into the blood (tumor lysis syndrome). This can lead to kidney problems.
  • Underactive thyroid gland, which can cause symptoms like fatigue, lethargy, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, weight gain.

Important Warnings

  • Pomalidomid Avansor can cause severe birth defects or lead to the death of an unborn baby. Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or plan to become pregnant. Follow contraception guidelines strictly.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredient in this medicine. Tell your doctor if you have had an allergic reaction to similar medicines like thalidomide or lenalidomide.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have ever had blood clots. This medicine can increase the risk of blood clots.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems (such as heart attack, heart failure, or irregular heartbeat), breathing difficulties, smoke, or have high blood pressure or cholesterol.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had nerve damage causing tingling or pain in your hands or feet (neuropathy).

  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had a Hepatitis B infection, as this medicine may reactivate the virus.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe skin reactions such as widespread rash, fever, flu-like symptoms, swelling, or enlarged lymph nodes (e.g., DRESS, TEN, SJS).
  • This medicine may increase the risk of developing other types of cancer. Your doctor will discuss the benefits and risks with you.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you experience new or changing symptoms like blurred vision, speech difficulties, weakness in arms or legs, walking problems, memory loss, or confusion, as these could be signs of a serious brain disorder (PML).
  • Do not break, open, or chew the capsules. Use disposable gloves when handling capsules and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water afterwards. Pregnant women should not handle the capsules.
