How to Use

Dosage

The recommended starting dose of Pomalidomid Avansor is 4 mg daily.

Method

Do not break, open, or chew the capsules. Swallow them whole, preferably with water, with or without food, at roughly the same time each day.

Important

Your doctor may adjust your dose, but generally, do not take more than 4 mg per day unless your doctor advises otherwise.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired or weak
  • Shortness of breath
  • Infections, such as lung infections (pneumonia) or infections of the nose, sinuses, or throat
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain
  • Muscle pain, cramps, or weakness; bone or back pain
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning pain in hands and feet; feeling dizzy or shaky
  • Swelling in your body, including arms and legs
  • Rashes, itchy skin, or hives
  • High blood sugar levels
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Low levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, or platelets, which can lead to tiredness, more infections, or easy bleeding
  • Imbalance of body salts like potassium, magnesium, phosphate, or sodium, causing weakness, muscle problems, or confusion
  • Confusion or feeling down (depression)
  • Blurred vision (cataract)
  • Kidney problems or difficulty urinating (urinary tract infection)
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause yellow skin or eyes, itching, dark urine, or stomach pain
  • Tumor lysis syndrome (a dangerous breakdown of cancer cells that can harm your kidneys)
  • Underactive thyroid gland, causing tiredness, weight gain, or a slow heart rate
  • Rejection of a transplanted organ (like a heart or liver)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or could become pregnant, as it is expected to cause severe birth defects or harm to an unborn baby. Both men and women must use reliable contraception during treatment.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredient in it, or if you have had a similar allergic reaction to medicines like thalidomide or lenalidomide.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had blood clots before, as this medicine can increase your risk of developing new blood clots.
  • Patients taking pomalidomide for multiple myeloma may develop other types of cancer. Your doctor will assess the benefits and risks of treatment.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse right away if you experience problems with vision, speech, arm or leg weakness, changes in walking or balance, numbness, memory loss, or confusion, as these could be signs of a serious brain condition (PML).
