How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is 4 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the capsules whole with water. You can take them with or without food, around the same time each day.

Important

Do not exceed 4 mg daily. Your doctor may adjust your dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath
  • Lung infections (like pneumonia or bronchitis)
  • Nose, sinus, and throat infections
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia), which can cause tiredness and weakness
  • Low potassium levels, which can cause weakness, muscle cramps, numbness, or mood changes
  • High blood sugar
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Constipation, diarrhea, or feeling sick (nausea)
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Tiredness or lack of energy
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Dizziness or shaking (tremor)
  • Muscle cramps or muscle weakness
  • Bone pain or back pain
  • Numbness, tingling, or burning feeling in your hands or feet (nerve damage)
  • Swelling in your body, including arms and legs
  • Skin rash
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI), which can cause burning when urinating or needing to urinate often
  • Falls
  • Bleeding in the head
  • Reduced movement or feeling in your hands, arms, feet, and legs due to nerve damage
  • Dizziness or feeling like the room is spinning
  • Fluid retention
  • Hives (itchy red welts)
  • Itchy skin
  • Shingles
  • Heart attack (chest pain spreading to arms, neck, jaw, sweating, shortness of breath, nausea)
  • Chest pain or chest infection
  • High blood pressure
  • Low red and white blood cells and platelets (pancytopenia), making you tired, weak, short of breath, and more prone to bleeding, bruising, and infections
  • Low lymphocyte count (a type of white blood cell), often due to infection
  • Low magnesium levels, causing tiredness, weakness, muscle cramps, irritability, numbness/tingling in hands, feet or lips, muscle weakness, dizziness, confusion
  • Low phosphate levels, causing muscle weakness and irritability or confusion
  • High calcium levels, causing slower reflexes and weak muscles
  • High potassium levels, which can cause abnormal heart rhythm
  • Low sodium levels, causing tiredness, confusion, muscle twitching, seizures (epileptic attacks), or coma
  • High uric acid levels, which can cause a type of arthritis called gout
  • Low blood pressure, causing dizziness or fainting
  • Sore or dry mouth
  • Taste changes
  • Abdominal swelling
  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Loss of consciousness, fainting
  • Blurred vision (cataracts)
  • Kidney damage
  • Inability to urinate
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Pelvic pain
  • Weight loss
RARE
  • Stroke
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis), which can cause yellow skin/eyes, dark urine, pale stools, and stomach pain
  • Tumor lysis syndrome (cancer cells breaking down), which can cause kidney problems
  • Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), which can cause tiredness, sluggishness, muscle weakness, slow heart rate, and weight gain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are planning to become pregnant, as it can cause severe birth defects or death to an unborn baby.
  • Both men and women must use reliable birth control during and for some time after treatment if there's a chance of pregnancy.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pomalidomide or any other ingredients in it.
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had blood clots, heart problems, nerve damage, or a hepatitis B infection.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you get a severe skin rash, high fever, swollen glands, or swelling in your face or body.

  • Tell your doctor right away if you have blurred vision, trouble speaking, weakness in an arm or leg, balance problems, numbness, memory loss, or confusion.
  • Do not break, open, or chew the capsules. If powder from a broken capsule touches your skin, wash it immediately with soap and water.
  • Do not donate blood or sperm during treatment and for 7 days after your last dose.
