How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is either 20 mg or 0.24 mg per kilogram of body weight per day. For children (1-18 years old), the dose is 0.24 mg per kilogram of body weight per day.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you an injection under the skin.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea, nausea, or redness/irritation where the injection was given.
  • Low red blood cells (anemia) shown in blood tests, especially in children.
  • Headache.
  • Dizziness, tiredness, or generally feeling unwell.
  • Trouble sleeping.
  • Gas, constipation, indigestion, or vomiting.
  • Stomach pain, swelling, or discomfort.
  • Dry mouth or numbness around the mouth.
  • Sweating, general skin redness, joint pain, muscle pain, or bone pain.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions such as rash, eye swelling, shortness of breath, or severe allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock).
  • Unusual dreams or nightmares.
  • Heart attack (especially in patients with risk factors). Tell your doctor if you feel chest discomfort.
  • Severe stomach problems (diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, nausea).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to plerixafor or any other ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart or kidney problems, low platelet count, high white blood cell count, or if you have fainted before.
  • This medicine is not recommended if you have leukemia (blood or bone marrow cancer).
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Use birth control if you can become pregnant.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness or tiredness. Do not drive or operate machines if you feel dizzy or tired.
