How to Use
Dosage
Typically, you take three yellow tablets (801 mg total) or one brown tablet (801 mg) three times a day with food.
Method
Swallow the tablets whole with water. Take them with or right after food to help prevent nausea and dizziness.
Important
Do not take more than 2403 mg per day.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Respiratory infections (e.g., cold, sinus infection)
- •Nausea and vomiting
- •Stomach problems (e.g., indigestion, heartburn, bloating, pain, diarrhea, constipation)
- •Reduced appetite or weight loss
- •Tiredness or drowsiness
- •Dizziness or headache
- •Skin problems (e.g., rash, itching, redness, dry skin, sunburn, increased sensitivity to sun)
- •Joint or muscle pain
- •Shortness of breath or cough
- •Taste changes
- •Hot flashes
- •Increased liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
- •Urinary tract infections
- •Chest pain
- •Difficulty sleeping
RARE
- •Low sodium in blood (can cause headache, dizziness, confusion, weakness, muscle cramps, nausea, and vomiting)
- •Decreased white blood cell count (seen in blood tests)
Important Warnings
- Stop taking this medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you have severe allergic reactions like swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, difficulty breathing, or if you get severe skin reactions such as blistering or peeling skin.
- Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems. You will need regular blood tests to check your liver function during treatment.
- Avoid sunlight and sunlamps, as this medicine makes your skin more sensitive to the sun. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing. Avoid certain antibiotics (like doxycycline) that also increase sun sensitivity.
- Do not take this medicine if you are using fluvoxamine, a medicine for depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder. Discuss all other medicines you are taking with your doctor.
- Do not smoke before or during treatment, as smoking can reduce the medicine's effectiveness.
