How to Use

Dosage

First 7 days: 267 mg (1 yellow tablet) three times daily with food. Days 8-14: 534 mg (2 yellow tablets) three times daily with food. From day 15 onwards (maintenance): 801 mg (3 yellow or 1 dark pink tablet) three times daily with food.

Method

Swallow tablets whole with water, with or after food, to help prevent nausea and dizziness.

Important

The maximum recommended daily dose is 2403 mg, taken as 801 mg three times a day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Throat or lung infections, including sinus infections.
  • Nausea.
  • Stomach problems like heartburn, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, bloating, or stomach pain.
  • Weight loss.
  • Decreased appetite.
  • Difficulty sleeping.
  • Tiredness.
  • Dizziness.
  • Headache.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Cough.
  • Joint pain.
  • Urinary tract infections.
  • Sleepiness.
  • Taste changes.
  • Hot flushes.
  • Higher liver enzyme levels in blood tests.
  • Skin reactions from sunlight or sunlamps.
  • Skin problems like itching, redness, dryness, or rash.
  • Muscle pain.
  • Feeling weak or lacking energy.
  • Chest pain.
  • Sunburn.
RARE
  • Low sodium (salt) levels in the blood, which can cause headache, dizziness, confusion, weakness, muscle cramps, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Decreased white blood cell count in blood tests.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to pirfenidone or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have had a severe allergic reaction (angioedema) in the past, such as swelling of the face, lips, or tongue with breathing difficulties.
  • Do not take if you are taking a medicine called fluvoxamine for depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease or severe kidney disease requiring dialysis.
  • Avoid sunlight and sunlamps during treatment, as your skin may become more sensitive. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing.

  • Stop smoking before starting treatment and avoid smoking during treatment, as it can reduce the medicine's effect.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness and tiredness. Be careful when driving or operating machinery.
  • This medicine can cause serious liver problems. You will need regular blood tests to check your liver function during treatment.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice during treatment, as it can stop the medicine from working properly.
