How to Use

Dosage

Start with a lower dose, then gradually increase. Week 1: 1 tablet (267 mg) three times a day. Week 2: 2 tablets (534 mg) three times a day. After Week 2: 3 tablets (267 mg) or 1 brown tablet (801 mg) three times a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. Take them with food or right after food to lower the risk of side effects like nausea and dizziness.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 2403 mg. Do not take more than your doctor has prescribed.

RARE
  • Low sodium levels in your blood, which can cause headache, dizziness, confusion, weakness, muscle cramps, nausea, or vomiting.
  • Low white blood cell count (seen in blood tests).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pirfenidone or any other ingredients.
  • Stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away if you get swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, itching, hives, or have trouble breathing. These could be signs of a serious allergic reaction.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking fluvoxamine (a medicine for depression or obsessive-compulsive disorder).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease, advanced kidney disease, or need dialysis.
  • This medicine can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. Avoid sunlight (including sun lamps) and use sunscreen daily, covering exposed skin with clothes.

  • Do not smoke before or during treatment. Smoking can make this medicine less effective.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness and tiredness. Be careful when driving or operating machines.
  • This medicine can cause serious liver problems. You will need blood tests to check your liver function before and regularly during treatment.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can stop the medicine from working properly.
