How to Use
Dosage
Starting dose is 267 mg (one yellow tablet) three times a day for the first 7 days. On days 8-14, the dose is 534 mg (two yellow tablets) three times a day. From day 15 onwards, the maintenance dose is 801 mg (three yellow or one brown tablet) three times a day.
Method
Take the tablets whole with water, with or immediately after a meal to reduce the risk of side effects.
Important
The maximum daily dose is 2403 mg, divided into three doses.
Possible Side Effects
COMMON
- •Throat or chest infections, or sinus infections
- •Nausea, heartburn, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, or indigestion
- •Feeling tired or dizzy, headache, or trouble sleeping
- •Loss of appetite or weight loss
- •Shortness of breath or cough
- •Joint pain
RARE
- •Low sodium levels in the blood, which can cause headache, dizziness, confusion, weakness, muscle cramps, nausea, or vomiting.
- •Reduced number of white blood cells (seen in blood tests).
Important Warnings
- Stop taking Pirfenidone Accord and get medical help right away if you have swelling of your face, lips, or tongue, itching, hives, or trouble breathing.
- Stop taking Pirfenidone Accord and get medical help right away if you develop severe skin reactions like red, blistering, or peeling skin, especially with fever or flu-like symptoms.
- Stop taking Pirfenidone Accord and see a doctor right away if your skin or eyes turn yellow, your urine is dark, or you have stomach pain, as these can be signs of liver problems.
- This medicine makes your skin very sensitive to sunlight. Avoid direct sun and sunlamps, and use sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors.
- This medicine can make you dizzy or tired. Do not drive or operate machines if you feel this way.
