Pirfenidon Cipla

Pirfenidon Cipla contains pirfenidone, a medicine for adults with a lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). It helps reduce scarring and swelling in the lungs, making it easier to breathe.

How to Use

Dosage

Days 1-7: Take one 267 mg yellow tablet, three times a day with food (total 801 mg per day). Days 8-14: Take two 267 mg yellow tablets (total 534 mg), three times a day with food (total 1602 mg per day). From Day 15 onwards: Take three 267 mg yellow tablets or one 801 mg pink tablet, three times a day with food (total 2403 mg per day).

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. Take them with or after food to help reduce side effects like upset stomach and dizziness.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 2403 mg.

  • Low blood sodium levels, causing headache, dizziness, confusion, weakness, muscle cramps, nausea, and vomiting
  • Decreased white blood cell count in blood tests

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to pirfenidone or any other ingredient, or if you have had severe swelling of your face, lips, or tongue (angioedema) with breathing problems after taking pirfenidone.
  • Do not take if you are using fluvoxamine, a medicine for depression or a type of anxiety disorder.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease or severe kidney disease that requires dialysis.
  • This medicine can make you more sensitive to sunlight. Avoid the sun and sunlamps, use sunscreen every day, and cover your arms, legs, and head.
  • Stop smoking before and during treatment. Smoking can make this medicine less effective.

  • This medicine may cause dizziness and tiredness. Do not drive or use machines if you feel dizzy or tired.
  • Pirfenidon Cipla can cause serious liver problems. You will need blood tests before starting treatment, then every month for the first 6 months, and every 3 months after that, to check how your liver is working.
  • Do not give this medicine to children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can stop Pirfenidon Cipla from working correctly.
  • If you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor. The risks to an unborn baby are unknown.
  • Stop taking this medicine and get medical help right away if you get severe skin reactions like serious rashes, blisters, or peeling skin, especially with fever or flu-like symptoms (signs of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, or DRESS syndrome).
