How to Use

Dosage

For adults and children over 12, the usual dose is 4g/0.5g every 6-8 hours; for children aged 2-12, doses vary by weight and condition, your doctor will determine the right dose.

Method

This medicine is given as an infusion (a drip) into a vein over 30 minutes.

Important

Your doctor will decide the maximum daily dose based on your age and condition; a single dose for children should not be more than 4g/0.5g.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea
  • Yeast infection
  • Headache and trouble sleeping
  • Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, or indigestion
  • Skin rash or itching
  • Fever and reactions at the injection site
  • Changes in blood tests (like fewer platelets or red blood cells, or changes in liver/kidney function)
RARE
  • Severe skin problems (like widespread rash with blisters, peeling skin, or swelling)
  • Serious allergic reactions (like swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or trouble breathing)
  • Seizures or confusion
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice) or liver problems
  • Kidney problems or issues with blood cells (like severe decrease in white blood cells or bleeding problems)
  • Severe or persistent diarrhea with fever
  • Inflammation of the colon or mouth

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to piperacillin, tazobactam, or other penicillin-type antibiotics.
  • Tell your doctor if you have allergies, especially multiple allergies, before taking this medicine.
  • If you have diarrhea before, during, or after treatment, tell your doctor right away. Do not take anti-diarrhea medicine without talking to your doctor first.
  • Your doctor may need to check your kidneys and do blood tests if you have low potassium, kidney or liver problems, or are on dialysis.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking vancomycin or blood thinners, or if you have unexpected bleeding or seizures.

  • If you suspect a new or worsening infection, or experience symptoms like fever, swollen glands, weakness, dizziness, shortness of breath, bruising, or rash (signs of HLH), contact your doctor immediately as this can be serious.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years old.
