How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine the dose based on your age, weight, and type of infection. Typically, adults and adolescents over 12 receive 4 g / 0.5 g every 6-8 hours into a vein. For children aged 2-12, the dose depends on their weight and is given every 6-8 hours.

Method

Your doctor or another healthcare professional will give you this medicine as an infusion (a drip lasting 30 minutes) into a vein.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose individually; however, a single dose for children usually does not exceed 4 g / 0.5 g. For adults, the maximum daily dose is decided by your doctor.

  • Reduced blood platelets, red blood cells or hemoglobin; abnormal lab test results (positive Coombs test); prolonged blood clotting time
  • Decreased protein levels in blood

  • Seizures, observed in patients receiving high doses or with kidney problems
  • Low blood pressure, vein inflammation (tenderness and redness in the affected area), skin redness
  • Increased breakdown product of blood pigment (bilirubin)
  • Skin reactions with redness, skin lesions, hives
  • Muscle and joint pain

RARE
  • Severe decrease in white blood cells (agranulocytosis)
  • Severe colon infection, mouth lining inflammation
RARE
  • Severe decrease in red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets (pancytopenia); decreased white blood cells (neutropenia); decreased red blood cells due to premature breakdown; small bruises; prolonged bleeding; increased platelets; increased specific type of white blood cells (eosinophilia)
  • Allergic reaction and severe allergic reaction
  • Liver inflammation
  • Impaired kidney function and kidney problems
  • Lung disease with increased eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) in the lungs
  • Acute disorientation and confusion (delirium)
  • Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, bullous dermatitis, exfoliative dermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis) starting as red, target-like spots or patches, often with blisters. Other symptoms include sores in the mouth, throat, nose, limbs, genitals, and red, swollen eyes. Rash may worsen to widespread blistering or skin peeling, which can be life-threatening.
  • Severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction (drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms) that may affect the skin and, more seriously, internal organs like kidneys and liver.
  • Skin condition (Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis - AGEP) with fever and numerous small fluid-filled blisters on widespread swollen, red skin areas.
  • Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or other parts of the body.
  • Shortness of breath, wheezing, or difficulty breathing.
  • Severe rash or hives, itching or rash.
  • Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin (jaundice).
  • Blood cell damage (symptoms can include unexpected shortness of breath, reddish or brownish urine, nosebleeds, and small bruise-like spots), severe decrease in white blood cells.
  • Severe or persistent diarrhea accompanied by fever or weakness.
  • Brain disorder (encephalopathy) and seizures.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to piperacillin, tazobactam, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to other antibiotics like penicillins, cephalosporins, or other beta-lactamase inhibitors, as you might also be allergic to this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse if you have allergies. If you have several allergies, be sure to tell your healthcare professional before receiving this medicine.
  • Inform your doctor or nurse immediately if you have diarrhea before, during, or after treatment. Do not take any anti-diarrhea medicine without consulting your doctor first.
  • Tell your doctor if you have low potassium levels in your blood. Your doctor may check your kidney function and order regular blood tests during treatment.

  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems or are on dialysis. Your doctor may check your kidney function and order regular blood tests during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking another antibiotic called vancomycin at the same time, as this can increase the risk of kidney damage.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse immediately if you are taking blood thinners (anticoagulants) or experience unexpected bleeding during treatment.
  • Inform your doctor or nurse immediately if you experience seizures during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor or nurse immediately if you suspect your infection has worsened or you have developed a new infection.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms like fever, swollen glands, weakness, dizziness, shortness of breath, bruising, or rash, as these could be signs of a serious immune condition called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years old, as there is not enough information on its safety and effectiveness.
