How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults and children over 12 is 4 g / 0.5 g of piperacillin/tazobactam, given every 6-8 hours. For children aged 2-12, the dose is calculated based on weight.

Method

This medicine is given as a 30-minute drip into a vein (intravenously) by a doctor or healthcare professional.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is usually 16 g / 2 g, given in multiple doses. For children, a single dose will not exceed 4 g / 0.5 g.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Diarrhea
  • Yeast infections
  • Headache, trouble sleeping
  • Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, constipation, indigestion
  • Skin rash, itching
  • Fever, reactions at the injection site
  • Changes in blood tests (low platelets, red blood cells, or proteins; abnormal kidney or liver tests; prolonged blood clotting)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (including severe skin rashes, swelling of the face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing, or severe whole-body reactions)
  • Seizures
  • Low blood pressure, vein inflammation
  • Severe changes in blood cell counts (very low white or red blood cells, low platelets), nosebleeds
  • Severe colon inflammation, liver inflammation, yellow skin or eyes
  • Kidney problems
  • Muscle and joint pain, chills
  • Acute disorientation or confusion

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to piperacillin, tazobactam, or any similar antibiotics like penicillin.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if you have severe diarrhea during or after treatment.
  • Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems, or if you are on dialysis.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience seizures or unexpected bleeding.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you develop severe skin rashes, swelling of the face/lips/tongue, difficulty breathing, or symptoms like fever, swollen glands, weakness, dizziness, bruising, or rash, as these could be signs of a serious allergic reaction or a rare immune disorder.
