This medicine is an antibiotic that helps your body fight different types of bacterial infections.
For adults and children over 12, the usual dose is 4 g/0.5 g, given into a vein every 6 to 8 hours. For children aged 2-12, the dose depends on their weight and the type of infection, given every 6 or 8 hours.
A doctor or nurse will give you this medicine as a drip (infusion) into one of your veins over 30 minutes.
Your doctor will decide your maximum daily dose. For adults, it can be up to 16 g/2 g per day, given in doses every 6-8 hours. For children, no single dose should be more than 4 g/0.5 g.
