This medicine is a penicillin antibiotic that kills many types of bacteria, including those resistant to other penicillin-type drugs.
For adults and adolescents over 12, the usual dose is 4g/0.5g given into a vein every 6-8 hours. For children aged 2-12, the dose depends on their weight and the type of infection, given every 6-8 hours into a vein.
This medicine is given by a doctor or nurse as a slow drip (infusion) into a vein over 30 minutes.
The maximum daily dose for adults is typically 16g of piperacillin and 2g of tazobactam, split into multiple doses. For children, a single dose will not exceed 4g/0.5g.
