How to Use

Dosage

Usually, you take 0.2 mg once a day.

Method

Swallow the tablet with water. Take it at the same time each day to help you remember.

Important

Your doctor may increase your daily dose to a maximum of 0.6 mg. The largest single dose is 0.4 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • dry mouth
  • back pain
  • headache
  • weakness
  • dizziness
  • rash, itching
  • difficulty sleeping, drowsiness
  • nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, upset stomach
RARE
  • neck pain
  • nervousness
  • fainting
  • swelling (e.g., in hands or feet)
  • ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • unusually slow heart rate
  • too low blood pressure, including when standing up
  • swelling of the face, lips, or mouth (angioedema)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Physiotens if you are allergic to moxonidine or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • Do not use if you have certain heart conditions, like sick sinus syndrome, a very slow heartbeat, or heart failure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have first-degree heart block, severe heart artery disease, or chest pain when resting.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, as your dose might need to be changed.
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Physiotens, as it can make the effects of alcohol stronger.

  • If you get a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling of your face, lips, or mouth, stop taking the medicine right away and contact a doctor.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include orthostatism, headache, drowsiness and sleep disorders. Potentiates the effect of CNS depressants. (updated 19.5.2025)
