How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the strength of the solution and how many bags you need to use each day.

Method

This solution is put into your abdominal cavity. First, warm the bag to 37°C and use it exactly as instructed by your healthcare team.

Important

Do not use more solution than your doctor has prescribed, as overuse can cause abdominal swelling and breathing difficulties.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood tests, such as high calcium, low potassium (which can cause muscle weakness or irregular heartbeat), or high bicarbonate.
  • Weakness and tiredness.
  • Fluid buildup in the body (swelling).
  • Weight gain.
RARE
  • Less fluid removed during dialysis.
  • Fainting, dizziness, or headache.
  • Cloudy dialysis fluid, stomach pain.
  • Bleeding in the abdomen, pus, swelling, or pain around the catheter, catheter blockage.
  • Nausea, loss of appetite, gas, thirst, dry mouth.
  • Abdominal distension or inflammation, shoulder pain, hernia in the abdominal cavity.
  • Changes in blood tests, such as lactic acidosis, high carbon dioxide, high blood sugar, or increased white blood cells.
  • Insomnia.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Cough.
  • Muscle or bone pain.
  • Swelling of the face or throat.
  • Rash.
  • A rare, serious condition called encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS), which can cause stomach pain, abdominal swelling, and vomiting.

Important Warnings

  • If you are allergic to this medicine or any of its ingredients.
  • If you have problems with your abdominal wall or cavity that cannot be fixed by surgery, or if you have a higher risk of abdominal infections.
  • If your peritoneum (the lining of your abdomen) isn't working well due to severe scarring.
  • If you have stomach pain, fever, or notice your dialysis fluid is cloudy or has particles. These could be signs of an infection, and you should contact your healthcare team immediately.
  • If you infuse an unmixed bag, you might feel stomach pain. Drain it immediately, mix a new bag, and tell your doctor.

  • If tubes or clamps are used incorrectly, air can enter your abdominal cavity, causing stomach pain or inflammation.
  • If you have diabetes, your medication dose might need to be adjusted while using this solution.
  • If you have a corn allergy, stop the fluid infusion immediately and drain your abdominal cavity, as it can cause a severe allergic reaction.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience high blood pressure.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have swollen ankles/legs, swollen eyes, shortness of breath, or chest pain, as these can be signs of fluid overload.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have chills or fever, as these can be flu-like symptoms.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience inflammation of the peritoneum (peritonitis).
