How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right glucose strength and how many bags you should use each day.

Method

This medicine is given into your abdomen (belly) as directed by your healthcare team; warm the bag to 37°C using a special heating plate, never in water or a microwave.

Important

Do not use more solution than your doctor has prescribed; using too much can cause bloating, stomach pain, and shortness of breath.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood values: increased calcium (hypercalcemia)
  • Changes in blood values: decreased potassium (hypokalemia), which can cause muscle weakness, sudden twitching, or an irregular heartbeat.
  • Changes in blood values: increased bicarbonate (alkalosis)
  • Weakness, fatigue
  • Fluid retention (swelling)
  • Weight gain
RARE
  • Reduced fluid removal during dialysis
  • Fainting, dizziness, or headache
  • Cloudy drained fluid, abdominal pain
  • Bleeding in the abdomen, pus, swelling or pain around the catheter, catheter blockage
  • Nausea, loss of appetite, indigestion, flatulence (gas), thirst, dry mouth, abdominal bloating or inflammation, shoulder pain, abdominal hernia
  • Changes in blood values: lactic acidosis (too much acid in blood)
  • Changes in blood values: increased carbon dioxide levels
  • Changes in blood values: high blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
  • Changes in blood values: increased white blood cells (eosinophilia)
  • Insomnia (trouble sleeping)
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Cough
  • Muscle or bone pain
  • Swelling of the face or throat
  • Rash
  • Catheter site infection, catheter blockage

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to the active substances or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have an uncorrectable problem with your abdominal wall or cavity, or an issue that increases the risk of abdominal infections.
  • Do not use if your peritoneum (lining of the abdomen) is not working well due to severe scarring.
  • Contact your healthcare team immediately if you experience abdominal pain, fever, or notice cloudy or particle-filled drained fluid, as this may indicate peritonitis (abdominal infection).
  • Do not stop peritoneal dialysis treatment without your doctor's permission, as stopping it can be life-threatening.
