How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right glucose strength and how many bags you should use each day.

Method

Administer Physioneal 35 into your abdomen (peritoneal cavity) exactly as instructed by your dialysis care team; always warm the bag to 37°C using a designated heating plate, never in water or a microwave, and use aseptic technique throughout the process.

Important

Do not use more solution than your doctor has prescribed, as using too much can cause stomach swelling, abdominal pain, and shortness of breath.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., increased calcium, decreased potassium causing muscle weakness, twitching, or irregular heartbeat)
  • Weakness, fatigue
  • Fluid retention (edema)
  • Weight gain
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Swollen ankles or legs, swollen eyes, shortness of breath, or chest pain (excess fluid in the body)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Chills (flu-like symptoms), fever
  • Inflamed abdominal lining (peritonitis)
RARE
  • Reduced fluid removal during dialysis
  • Fainting, dizziness, or headache
  • Cloudy dialysate from the abdomen, stomach pain
  • Bleeding in the abdomen, pus, swelling or pain around the catheter exit site, catheter blockage
  • Nausea, poor appetite, gas, thirst, dry mouth
  • Swollen abdomen or inflammation in the abdomen, shoulder pain, abdominal hernia
  • Changes in blood tests (e.g., lactic acidosis, increased carbon dioxide, high blood sugar, increased white blood cells)
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Cough
  • Muscle or bone pain
  • Swelling of the face or throat
  • Rash
  • Catheter exit site infection, catheter blockage

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredients in this medicine or if you have a defect in your abdominal wall or cavity that cannot be surgically corrected, or an uncorrectable problem that increases the risk of abdominal infections, or if severe scarring has made your peritoneum unable to function well.
  • Always mix the two solutions in the bag by first opening the long seam, then the short SafetyMoon seam, before infusing; infusing unmixed solution can cause stomach pain and other serious side effects.
  • Contact your healthcare team immediately if you experience stomach pain, fever, or cloudy/particle-filled drained fluid, as these can be signs of peritonitis (abdominal infection).
  • Do not heat the bag in a water bath or microwave; use only a heating plate designed for this purpose.
  • Always follow aseptic (sterile) technique and wash your hands thoroughly before changing the solution bag to prevent infection.

  • Do not stop your peritoneal dialysis treatment without your doctor's approval, as discontinuing treatment can be life-threatening.
  • Air entering your abdomen due to incorrect clamping or flushing of tubes can cause abdominal pain or peritonitis.
  • A rare but serious condition called Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS) can occur, causing abdominal inflammation, bowel thickening, pain, swelling, vomiting, and can be fatal.
