How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right glucose strength and how many bags you should use each day.

Method

This medicine is given into your abdomen (tummy). Warm the bag to 37°C using a special heating pad; never put it in water or a microwave. Always clean your hands and the exchange area before starting a solution change, and follow sterile techniques.

Important

Do not use more solution than your doctor has prescribed. Using too much can cause bloating, fullness, and shortness of breath.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood values: increased calcium (hypercalcemia), decreased potassium (hypokalemia), which can cause muscle weakness, twitching, or irregular heartbeat.
  • Weakness, tiredness.
  • Fluid retention in the body (swelling).
  • Weight gain.
RARE
  • Less fluid removal during dialysis.
  • Fainting, dizziness, headache.
  • Cloudy drained fluid, abdominal pain.
  • Bleeding in the abdomen, pus, swelling or pain around the catheter site, catheter blockage.
  • Nausea, loss of appetite, indigestion, gas, thirst, dry mouth.
  • Abdominal bloating or inflammation, shoulder pain, hernia in the abdomen.
  • Changes in blood values: lactic acidosis, increased carbon dioxide, high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), increased white blood cells (eosinophilia).
  • Insomnia (difficulty sleeping).
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension).
  • Cough.
  • Muscle or bone pain.
  • Swelling of the face or throat.
  • Rash.
  • Infection at the catheter exit site, catheter blockage.

Important Warnings

  • The first time you use this medicine, it must be supervised by a doctor.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to the active ingredients or any other components of this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have an unfixable problem with your abdominal wall or cavity, or an increased risk of abdominal infections.
  • Do not use if your peritoneum (lining of the abdomen) is not working well due to severe scarring.
  • Not recommended for children needing less than 1600 ml fill volume.

  • Before use, open the long seam and mix the solutions from both chambers completely, then open the short SafetyMoon-seam. Infusing unmixed solution can cause abdominal pain, confusion, or irregular heart rhythm.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have abdominal pain, fever, or cloudy/particle-filled drained fluid, as this can be a sign of infection.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medications you are taking, as dialysis can speed up the removal of certain drugs from your body.
  • If you have diabetes, your blood sugar medicine dose may need regular adjustment.
  • If you are allergic to corn (maize) and experience an allergic reaction, stop the infusion immediately and drain the fluid from your abdomen.
  • Keep a record of your fluid balance and body weight.
  • Air entering the abdominal cavity due to incorrect handling of tubing can cause abdominal pain or inflammation.
  • Be aware of Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS), a rare but serious complication that can cause abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, and can be fatal.
