How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide the right glucose strength and how many bags you should use daily.

Method

This medicine is put into your abdomen (belly) as instructed by your healthcare team. Warm the bag to 37°C using a special warming plate; do not use water baths or microwaves. Always clean your hands and the area before changing the solution. Check the bag for leaks and ensure the solution is clear before use. Mix the two chambers of the bag by first opening the long seal, then the short SafetyMoon seal.

Important

Do not use more solution than your doctor prescribes. Using too much may cause abdominal bloating, fullness, or shortness of breath. Each bag is for single use only and must be used within 24 hours of mixing.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood tests: high calcium (hypercalcemia), low potassium (hypokalemia) which can cause muscle weakness, sudden jerking movements, or irregular heartbeat.
  • Weakness, tiredness.
  • Fluid retention (swelling).
  • Weight gain.
RARE
  • Reduced fluid removal during dialysis.
  • Fainting, dizziness, or headache.
  • Cloudy drained fluid from the abdomen, stomach pains.
  • Bleeding in the abdomen, pus, swelling or pain around the catheter site, catheter blockage.
  • Nausea, loss of appetite, digestive problems, bloating (gas), thirst, dry mouth.
  • Abdominal bloating or inflammation, shoulder pain, abdominal hernia.
  • Changes in blood tests: lactic acidosis, increased carbon dioxide, high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), increased white blood cells (eosinophilia).
  • Insomnia (difficulty sleeping).
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension).
  • Cough.
  • Muscle or bone pain.
  • Swelling of the face or throat.
  • Rash.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe abdominal problems that cannot be corrected by surgery or that increase the risk of abdominal infections.
  • Do not use if your peritoneum (lining of the abdomen) is severely scarred and not working properly.
  • Always mix the two chambers of the bag completely before use. Infusing unmixed solution can cause stomach pain, confusion, drowsiness, and irregular heartbeat.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have stomach pain, fever, or cloudy drained fluid, as these could be signs of an infection.

  • If you have diabetes, your blood sugar medication dose may need regular adjustment while on this treatment.
  • Do not stop your peritoneal dialysis treatment without your doctor's permission; stopping can be life-threatening.
  • This treatment may cause weakness, blurred vision, or dizziness. Do not drive or use machines if you have these symptoms.
