How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you the correct strength of the solution and how many bags you need to use each day.

Method

This medicine is put into your belly through a special tube (catheter) exactly as instructed by your healthcare team.

Important

Do not use more solution than your doctor has prescribed for you each day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Changes in blood tests, such as high calcium or low potassium (which can cause muscle weakness, jerking, or irregular heartbeat).
  • Feeling weak or tired.
  • Swelling due to fluid buildup.
  • Weight gain.
RARE
  • Less fluid removed during dialysis.
  • Fainting, dizziness, or headache.
  • Cloudy fluid draining from your belly, or belly pain.
  • Bleeding in the belly, pus, swelling, or pain around the catheter site, or a blocked catheter.
  • Nausea, not wanting to eat, digestive problems, gas, thirst, dry mouth.
  • Swollen belly, shoulder pain, or a hernia in your belly.
  • Other changes in blood tests, such as lactic acid buildup, high carbon dioxide, high blood sugar, or increased white blood cells.
  • Trouble sleeping.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Cough.
  • Muscle or bone pain.
  • Swelling of the face or throat.
  • Rash.
  • Infection around the catheter site or a blocked catheter.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to Physioneal 35 or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use if you have an unfixable problem with your belly wall or cavity, or a problem that greatly increases your risk of belly infection.
  • Do not use if you have severe scarring in your belly lining (peritoneum) that stops it from working well.
  • Contact your healthcare team right away if you have stomach pain, fever, or see cloudy or lumpy fluid draining from your belly. These could be signs of a serious infection.
  • If you accidentally put an unmixed solution into your belly, drain it out right away and use a freshly mixed bag.

  • A rare but serious problem called Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS) can happen. It causes belly inflammation, thick intestines (leading to pain, swelling, vomiting), and can be deadly. Your doctor will discuss this with you.
