How to Use

Dosage

Usually 20-30 mg per day for adults. For children, 0.4-0.8 mg per kg of body weight daily, divided into 2 or 3 doses. The doctor will always prescribe the lowest possible dose for children.

Method

Take this medicine by mouth. The number of tablets you take each day depends on your condition. Many tablets can be divided into equal doses.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling depressed, including thoughts of self-harm
  • Feeling unusually high (mania) or having strong mood swings
  • Anxiety, trouble sleeping, difficulty thinking, confusion, or memory loss
  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren't there; strange or frightening thoughts, changes in behavior, or feeling isolated
RARE
  • Itching or skin rash (possible allergic reaction)
  • Swelling of the face, lips, or throat (possible allergic reaction)
  • Difficulty breathing or wheezing (possible allergic reaction)
  • Heart failure (with symptoms like swollen ankles, chest pain, shortness of breath)
  • High blood pressure (hypertension), causing headaches or feeling unwell
  • Getting infections more easily, which can sometimes be serious
  • Worsening of infections like chickenpox or measles, or reactivation of tuberculosis
  • Muscle weakness or muscle wasting
  • Thinning and weakening of bones (osteoporosis), increasing the risk of fractures
  • Vision changes, such as cataracts, blurred vision, or increased eye pressure (glaucoma)
  • Weight gain
  • Increased appetite
  • Slow wound healing
  • Redness of skin
  • Easy bruising, red or purple spots on the skin, acne

Important Warnings

  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as you may need to reduce the dose slowly.
  • Stay away from people who have chickenpox or shingles if you have never had them. If you come into contact with them, see a doctor right away.
  • Tell your doctor if you get any new infections while using these tablets.
  • Talk to your doctor right away if you or someone taking this medicine experiences serious mood changes, anxiety, or thoughts of self-harm, especially if you feel depressed.
  • Always tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine if you have an accident, become very ill, or need surgery (including dental surgery).
