How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual dose is 20-30 mg per day. Your doctor may adjust this based on your specific condition. For children, the dose is 0.4-0.8 mg per kg of body weight daily, given in 2-3 separate doses, and your doctor will decide the lowest effective dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling very sad, hopeless, or having thoughts of harming yourself.
  • Feeling unusually happy or having big mood swings.
  • Feeling anxious, having trouble sleeping, thinking, or remembering.
  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that aren't real, having strange thoughts, acting differently, or feeling lonely.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with itchy skin, rash, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, or trouble breathing.
  • Heart problems like swollen ankles, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, or high blood pressure.
  • Stomach issues like bleeding ulcers (stomach pain, black stools, bloody vomit) or pancreas inflammation.
  • Bone thinning (osteoporosis), making fractures more likely, or muscle weakness/loss.
  • Vision changes like cataracts, blurry vision, or high pressure in the eyes (glaucoma).
  • Increased risk of serious infections, which might include chickenpox, measles, or tuberculosis coming back.
  • Hormone changes like Cushing's syndrome (round face, swollen belly, thin limbs, increased appetite) or slow growth in children.
  • High blood sugar, weight gain, fluid retention, or changes in potassium levels.
  • Headaches, vomiting, drowsiness due to increased pressure in the head (especially in children after stopping medicine).

Important Warnings

  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as you may need to reduce the dose gradually to avoid serious problems.
  • Avoid contact with people who have chickenpox or shingles if you've never had them. If you are exposed, contact your doctor immediately as these can make you very ill.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine before any surgery, dental procedure, or if you have a serious accident.
  • You should not receive live virus vaccines while taking this medicine. Always inform your doctor if you are going to get a vaccine.
  • If you notice any serious mental health changes, such as feeling very sad, anxious, confused, or seeing or hearing things that aren't real, contact your doctor right away.

  • Tell your doctor if you have a stomach ulcer, severe infections (like viral or fungal infections), or have recently had a heart attack.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to hydrocortisone or any other ingredients listed in the leaflet.
