Perusliuos-K is an intravenous solution that provides carbohydrates and salts to rehydrate patients and increase potassium, particularly after surgery or for those on diuretics.

How to Use

Dosage

Typically 30-40 ml per kg of body weight for short-term treatment in adults.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip (infusion) into a vein by a doctor or nurse.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum dose based on your age, weight, and condition.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • A small risk of inflammation and blood clot in a superficial vein (thrombophlebitis) where the infusion is given.
  • If too much of the medicine is given, it can lead to too much urination and dehydration.
  • If the medicine accidentally leaks outside the vein, it can cause tissue damage.
  • Sodium can build up in the body, especially in patients with heart or kidney problems.
  • Chloride can build up in the body if the medicine is given too quickly, especially in patients with kidney problems.
RARE
  • Headache (due to dangerously low sodium levels in the blood, leading to brain swelling)
  • Nausea (due to dangerously low sodium levels in the blood, leading to brain swelling)
  • Seizures (due to dangerously low sodium levels in the blood, leading to brain swelling)
  • Drowsiness or feeling very tired (due to dangerously low sodium levels in the blood, leading to brain swelling)
  • Coma (due to dangerously low sodium levels in the blood, leading to brain swelling)
  • Brain swelling (due to dangerously low sodium levels in the blood)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Perusliuos-K if you are allergic to any of its ingredients.
  • Do not use if your blood has too much magnesium, phosphate, or potassium.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not use if you are in a specific type of diabetic coma (hyperosmolar, non-ketotic diabetic coma).
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes or severe heart or kidney failure.

  • Tell your doctor if you have fluid retention, severe alkalosis (high pH in the body), or high lactate levels in your blood.
  • Tell your doctor if your body has too much sodium, you have reduced urination, or you are poorly nourished for a long time.
  • This medicine may increase the effect of vasopressin (a hormone that controls water in the body), which can lead to low sodium levels in your blood.
  • Be extra careful if you are pregnant and receiving oxytocin during delivery, as there is a risk of dangerously low sodium levels.
  • Consult your doctor if you take more than 340 ml daily for a longer period, especially if you are on a low-salt diet.
