How to Use

Dosage

For high blood pressure, the usual starting dose is 4 mg once a day. Your doctor may increase it to 8 mg once a day after one month.

Method

Take one tablet with a glass of water every morning before breakfast.

Important

The maximum daily dose for high blood pressure is 8 mg.

Possible Side Effects

  • Headache

  • Spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Tingling or numbness in skin
  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Stomach problems (like feeling sick, throwing up, stomach ache, changes in taste, indigestion, loose stools, constipation)
  • Allergic reactions (like rashes, itching)
  • Muscle cramps
  • Feeling weak
  • Low blood pressure
RARE
  • Mood changes
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Dry mouth
  • Severe itching or bad skin rashes
  • Skin blisters
  • Kidney problems
  • Impotence (erectile dysfunction)
  • Sweating a lot
  • More of certain white blood cells (eosinophils)
  • Feeling sleepy
  • Fainting
  • Fast or strong heartbeat
  • Very fast heart rate
  • Swelling of blood vessels
  • Skin being extra sensitive to sunlight
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Chest pain
  • Feeling generally unwell
  • Swelling in arms or legs
  • Fever
  • Falls
  • Feeling sad or depressed (depression)
  • Lab test changes: high potassium (gets better when you stop the medicine), low sodium, very low blood sugar (for people with diabetes), higher urea and creatinine in blood
  • Lab test changes: increased liver enzymes, high bilirubin in blood tests
  • Psoriasis getting worse
  • Dark urine, feeling sick or throwing up, muscle cramps, feeling confused, and seizures (these can be signs of SIADH)
  • Less or no urine production
  • Flushing (redness)
  • Sudden kidney failure
  • Confusion
  • A rare type of lung swelling called eosinophilic pneumonia
  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Changes in blood counts, like fewer white and red blood cells, low hemoglobin, and fewer platelets
  • Red blood cells breaking down too fast (hemolytic anemia) in people with a certain genetic condition (G-6PDH deficiency)
  • Fingers or toes changing color, feeling numb, and hurting (Raynaud's phenomenon)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to perindopril, other ingredients in this medicine, or any other ACE inhibitor. Do not take if you or a family member have had severe swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema).
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It is also not recommended during early pregnancy.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine that contains aliskiren.
  • Do not take if you are on dialysis or other blood filtration treatments, as this medicine may not be suitable for you.
  • Do not take if you have a kidney problem where blood flow to your kidneys is restricted (renal artery stenosis).

  • Do not take if you are taking or recently took a medicine containing sacubitril and valsartan for heart failure, as it increases the risk of severe swelling (angioedema).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
