How to Use

Dosage

Take one 10 mg tablet as needed when symptoms appear. If symptoms continue, you can take another tablet.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not chew. To prevent symptoms, take one tablet an hour before eating or drinking, or before an evening meal.

Important

Do not take more than two 10 mg tablets (20 mg total) in one day.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use Pepcid if you are allergic to famotidine or any other ingredient in this medicine. Also, do not give it to children under 12 years old.
  • Talk to a doctor if your symptoms do not get better within 14 days or if they get worse.
  • Stop taking Pepcid and see a doctor right away if you have trouble swallowing, severe vomiting, black or bloody stools, a choking feeling, or chest pain.
  • Talk to your doctor before using Pepcid if you are over 50 and get heartburn for the first time, have lost weight without a clear reason, or have kidney problems.
  • Do not use Pepcid if you are pregnant. If you are breastfeeding, always talk to your doctor before using Pepcid, as the medicine can pass into breast milk.

  • Pepcid may cause dizziness, which can affect your ability to drive or use machines. Be careful until you know how the medicine affects you.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Older persons are at risk of adverse effects, such as dizziness and confusion. (updated 18.3.2024)
