How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your age, sex, weight, and general health; you will receive one dose to start anesthesia and additional injections to maintain it.

  • Irregular heartbeat

  • Low blood pressure
  • Drowsiness
  • Delayed awakening from anesthesia
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Fast breathing (hyperventilation)

  • Snoring
  • Chills
  • Laryngospasm, cough or sneezing at the beginning of administration
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, wheezing, rash, itching, hives, dizziness)
  • Swelling of face, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, red bumps on skin, drop in blood pressure (angioedema, anaphylaxis)
  • High potassium in blood (hyperkalemia)
  • Low potassium in blood (hypokalemia)
  • Reduced food intake due to fear of gaining weight (anorexia)
  • General discomfort, weakness
  • Tiredness (fatigue)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Skin reactions
  • Vomiting after surgery
  • Persistent drowsiness, confusion, memory loss, and tremors

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to thiopental, barbiturates, or any other ingredients, or if you have blocked airways, severe asthma, a specific muscle disease (myotonic dystrophy), severe shock, or porphyria.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience difficulty breathing, wheezing, rash, itching, hives, or dizziness, as these could be signs of a severe allergic reaction.
  • Immediately tell your doctor if your face, tongue, or throat swells, or if you have trouble swallowing, red bumps on your skin, or a sudden drop in blood pressure.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for 24-36 hours after receiving Pentocur, as it can make you dizzy, disoriented, and sleepy.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high pressure in your head, asthma, severe breathing problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, low body fluid, bleeding, burns, a muscle weakening disease (myasthenia gravis), adrenal gland problems, general weakness, weight loss, kidney/liver problems, or if you misuse alcohol or drugs.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Breastfeeding should be stopped for at least 12 hours after taking Pentocur.
