How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you exactly how many Pentiro tablets to take each day.

Method

Always take one tablet at a time. Do not break or crush the tablets. You can take Pentiro with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose varies depending on the strength of your Pentiro tablets; always follow your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Involuntary movements
  • Nausea
  • Harmless reddish-brown discoloration of urine
  • Muscle pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Urinary tract infection
RARE
  • Feeling faint or dizzy due to low blood pressure, high blood pressure
  • Worsening Parkinson's symptoms, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Vomiting, stomach pain and discomfort, heartburn, dry mouth, constipation
  • Sleep problems, hallucinations, confusion, abnormal dreams (including nightmares), tiredness
  • Mood changes including memory problems, anxiety, and depression (potentially with suicidal thoughts)
  • Heart conditions (e.g., chest pain), irregular heart rate or rhythm
  • Increased tendency to fall
  • Shortness of breath
  • Increased sweating, rash
  • Muscle cramps, swelling of the legs
  • Blurred vision
  • Anemia
  • Loss of appetite, weight loss
  • Headache, joint pain
  • Heart attack
  • Bleeding in the digestive tract
  • Changes in blood cells (which can cause bleeding), abnormal liver function test results
  • Seizures
  • Agitation
  • Psychotic symptoms
  • Colitis (inflammation of the large intestine)
  • Discoloration of skin, nails, hair, or sweat (not urine)
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Inability to urinate
  • Hepatitis (liver inflammation)
  • Itching
  • Dopamine dysregulation syndrome (strong cravings for higher doses of Pentiro, sometimes causing severe involuntary movements and mood changes)
  • Strong urge to gamble (even with serious consequences)
  • Increased sexual interest or behavior that bothers you or others
  • Uncontrolled shopping or spending
  • Binge eating (eating large amounts in a short time) or compulsive eating (eating more than needed)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Pentiro if you are allergic to levodopa, carbidopa, entacapone, soy, peanuts, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Pentiro if you have narrow-angle glaucoma (an eye disease).
  • Do not take Pentiro if you have a tumor of the adrenal gland.
  • Do not take Pentiro if you are using certain types of antidepressants (combinations of selective MAO-A and MAO-B inhibitors, or non-selective MAO inhibitors).
  • Do not take Pentiro if you have had neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS – a rare reaction to medicines used for severe mental disorders).

  • Do not take Pentiro if you have had non-traumatic rhabdomyolysis (a rare muscle disease).
  • Do not take Pentiro if you have severe liver disease.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience very stiff muscles, strong twitching, tremors, agitation, confusion, fever, fast heart rate, or large changes in blood pressure, as these could be signs of serious conditions.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction like hives, itching, rash, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
  • Tell your doctor if you or your family notice unusual urges or behaviors, such as strong urges to gamble, overeat, spend excessively, or have an unusually increased sex drive. These are called impulse control disorders.
  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel very sleepy or suddenly fall asleep.
  • If you have long-lasting diarrhea, tell your doctor as it can be a sign of colon inflammation.
