How to Use

Dosage

The typical dose is 500 mg per square meter of body surface area, determined by your doctor.

Method

The medicine is given as an infusion into a vein for about 10 minutes, usually once every three weeks.

Your doctor will determine your dose based on your body surface area. This medicine is given as an infusion every three weeks, not daily.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Infection, including sore throat and blood infection
  • Low white blood cells (neutrophils), low red blood cells (anemia), low platelets
  • Pain, redness, swelling, or sores in the mouth
  • Loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion, stomach pain
  • Rash, peeling skin, itching, hives, increased skin pigmentation, hair loss, ring-shaped rashes
  • Tiredness (fatigue), fever, pain, swelling (fluid retention), dehydration, dizziness
  • Nerve damage causing muscle weakness or numbness/burning pain in arms/legs, unsteady walking, changes in taste
  • Eye inflammation or swelling, dry or watery eyes, eye irritation/pain, swollen eyelids
  • Heart failure, irregular heartbeat, chest pain
  • Abnormal blood tests showing kidney problems, decreased kidney function, kidneys stop working
  • Increased liver enzyme levels
  • Allergic reaction
RARE
  • Significant decrease in red, white blood cells and platelets
  • Stroke, including bleeding in the skull or blocked brain arteries
  • Angina (chest pain from reduced blood flow), heart attack, narrowed/blocked heart arteries
  • Accelerated heart rhythm, poor blood flow to limbs, blood clot in lung artery
  • Breathing difficulties due to lung inflammation/scarring, radiation-induced lung inflammation
  • Severe bleeding from anus or digestive tract, bowel rupture, inflammation of esophagus/colon (possibly with bleeding), radiation-induced esophageal inflammation/erosion
  • Destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis)
  • Anaphylactic shock (severe allergic reaction)
  • Liver inflammation
  • Severe skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis (life-threatening), autoimmune disorder with rash and blisters on body, skin inflammation with blisters, fragile skin, erosions, scarring, redness, pain, swelling in lower limbs, inflammation of skin/subcutaneous fat (pseudocellulitis), dermatitis, inflamed, itchy, red, cracked, rough skin, severely itchy bumps, rash in previously irradiated areas
  • A form of diabetes caused by kidney disease
  • Kidney disorder with death of kidney cells

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to pemetrexed or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • You must stop breastfeeding during Pemetrexed Avansor treatment.
  • Avoid if you recently had or are getting a yellow fever vaccine.
  • Your doctor will check your blood before each treatment to make sure your kidneys and liver are working well and you have enough blood cells.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, a heart condition, fluid around your lungs, or have recently had radiation therapy or other vaccinations.
