How to Use

Dosage

The doctor will decide the dose based on your child's age, weight, and health condition.

Method

The medicine is given as a drip (infusion) into a large vein, usually in the chest area, through a thin plastic tube.

Important

The doctor will ensure that your child does not receive more than the maximum daily dose.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High fat levels in the blood (hypertriglyceridemia).
  • High blood sugar (hyperglycemia).
RARE
  • High fat levels in the blood (hyperlipidemia).
  • Blockage of bile flow, where bile fluid does not flow normally (cholestasis).
  • Fever.
  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice), due to high bilirubin levels in the blood.
  • Sudden, unexpected worsening of the patient's condition (fat overload syndrome).
  • Fat accumulation in the liver (enlarged liver).
  • Impaired liver function.
  • Decrease in red blood cells (anemia), which can cause paleness, weakness, or breathing difficulties.
  • Decrease in white blood cells (leukopenia), which can increase the risk of infection.
  • Decrease in platelets (thrombocytopenia), which can increase the risk of bruising and/or bleeding.
  • Blood clotting disorders.
  • Coma requiring hospitalization.
  • Nausea, vomiting, chills, and sweating (if too much medicine is given).
  • Increase in body temperature (if too much medicine is given).
  • Too much sugar in the blood and urine (hyperglycemia and glucosuria), which can lead to hyperosmolar syndrome (if too much medicine is given).

Important Warnings

  • If your child is allergic to eggs, fish, soy, peanuts, or any ingredient in this medicine.
  • If your child has inborn problems with using amino acids or metabolism.
  • If your child's blood sugar is too high (hyperglycemia).
  • If your child has too much salt in their blood.
  • If your child is a newborn (under 28 days old), this medicine must not be given with a specific antibiotic (ceftriaxone) due to a risk of fatal particles forming in the blood.

  • If your child has too many fats in their blood (hyperlipidemia or hypertriglyceridemia) when all three chambers are mixed.
  • Talk to the doctor if your child has kidney, liver, or heart problems, diabetes, a severe infection, or fluid in the lungs.
  • If your child develops fever, rash, swelling, difficulty breathing, chills, sweating, nausea, or vomiting during the infusion, tell healthcare staff immediately.
