How to Use

Dosage

Initial dose: one applicator full (5 g) of cream into the vagina every evening for 2-3 weeks. Maintenance dose: one applicator full (5 g) of cream 1-2 times per week in the evening.

Method

Wash the applicator with warm water. Pierce the tube opening with the cap's point. Screw the applicator onto the tube. Fill the applicator by squeezing the tube and gently pulling the plunger out. Lie on your back, carefully insert the full applicator deep into the vagina, and push the plunger all the way down. Clean the applicator with warm water after each use.

The maximum daily dose is one applicator full (5 g).

Possible Side Effects

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you have had breast cancer, uterine cancer, or any other estrogen-sensitive cancer.
  • Do not use if you have unexplained vaginal bleeding or untreated excessive growth of the uterine lining.
  • Do not use if you have had a blood clot or have a blood clotting disorder, or a disease caused by a blood clot, such as a heart attack or stroke.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease or a rare blood disorder called porphyria.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredients in Pausanol.

  • Stop use immediately and contact a doctor if you develop yellowing of the skin or eyes, facial swelling, high blood pressure, a new migraine-type headache, become pregnant, or have symptoms of a blood clot (e.g., leg swelling, sudden chest pain, breathing difficulties).
  • Pausanol is not a contraceptive. Use additional contraception if it has been less than 12 months since your last period or if you are under 50 years old.

Category D

The classification depends on the dosage form. Systemic use (for example estrogen patch, tablet, gel): Avoid use in older adults. In systemic use, consider potential adverse effects, such as risk of cardiovascular diseases and venous thromboembolism. Consider potential interactions.
