How to Use

Dosage

The usual first dose is 40 mg. You may get another dose of 20 mg or 40 mg, 6 to 12 hours after the first one.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give you Parecoxib Macure as an injection. It can be given quickly into a vein or slowly and deeply into a muscle. It is for short-term pain relief only.

Important

Do not take more than 80 mg in 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Nausea
  • Changes in blood pressure (up or down)
  • Back pain
  • Swelling in ankles, legs, or feet (fluid retention)
  • Numbness or reduced skin sensitivity to pain or touch
  • Vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion, constipation, bloating, gas
  • Kidney problems (shown in blood tests)
  • Feeling agitated or having trouble sleeping
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness and feeling out of breath (due to low red blood cells after surgery)
  • Sore throat or trouble breathing
  • Itchy skin
  • Urinating less than usual
  • Sore jaw after tooth removal
  • Increased sweating
  • Low potassium in blood tests
RARE
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke, mini-stroke, chest pain, or blood clots in heart or brain vessels
  • Blood clot in the lungs
  • Higher blood pressure (if already high)
  • Acid reflux (heartburn)
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure when standing up
  • Liver problems (shown in blood tests)
  • Easy bruising or changes in skin color
  • Wound infection or discharge after surgery
  • Problems with skin healing after surgery
  • High blood sugar in blood tests
  • Pain or reaction at the injection site
  • Rash or hives
  • Loss of appetite
  • Joint pain
  • Signs of damage to heart, brain, or muscles in blood tests (high enzyme levels)
  • Dry mouth
  • Muscle weakness
  • Earache
  • Abnormal bowel sounds
  • Acute kidney failure
  • Liver inflammation
  • Esophagitis (inflammation of the food pipe)
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas, causing stomach pain)
  • Severe drop in blood pressure causing circulatory collapse
  • Heart failure (worsening or new onset)
  • Kidney failure (worsening or new onset)
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to parecoxib, any other ingredients, or if you have had severe allergic reactions (especially skin reactions) to similar medicines or sulfonamide drugs in the past.
  • Do not use if you currently have stomach or intestinal ulcers or bleeding.
  • Do not use if aspirin, ibuprofen, or similar painkillers have caused you breathing problems, swelling (face/lips/tongue), or rash.
  • Do not use if you are more than 6 months pregnant or if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease, heart failure, or inflammatory bowel disease (like Crohn's disease).
