How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your weight and health.

Method

This medicine is given as a drip into a vein by a doctor, usually taking about 15 minutes.

Important

Do not take more than 4 doses in 24 hours. Your doctor will make sure you get the right dose to prevent serious liver damage.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain or burning sensation at the injection site.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions, from skin rashes like hives to severe allergic shock.
  • Severe skin reactions.
  • Lower than normal levels of certain blood cells (like platelets or white blood cells).
  • Changes in lab tests, like higher levels of liver enzymes in blood tests.
  • Drop in blood pressure.
  • Feeling unwell.
  • Redness, flushing, or itching of the skin.
  • Abnormally fast heart rate.
  • A serious condition where your blood becomes too acidic (metabolic acidosis), especially in very ill patients.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to paracetamol, propacetamol, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease, severe kidney disease, or chronic alcohol abuse.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines that contain paracetamol, as your dose may need to be adjusted.
  • Tell your doctor if you have malnutrition or are dehydrated.

  • Tell your doctor if you have a genetic enzyme disorder called favism.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you experience severe breathing difficulties, tiredness, nausea, or vomiting, as these could be signs of a serious condition called metabolic acidosis.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. The recommended maximum dose for long-term use is 2 grams per day. Can be used concurrently with warfarin only if INR values are monitored. Consider paracetamol in OTC drugs and combination products. Risk of poisoning with daily doses over 4 grams. (updated 14.4.2025)
