How to Use

Dosage

Typically one 40 mg tablet once a day, but your doctor may tell you to take two tablets (80 mg) a day for some conditions.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water, one hour before a meal. Do not chew or break them.

Important

Do not take more than two 40 mg tablets (80 mg) a day unless your doctor tells you to. For severe liver problems, do not exceed one 20 mg tablet per day.

  • Feeling weak or tired, general unwell feeling

  • Bone fractures (hip, wrist, spine)
RARE
  • Changes in taste or loss of taste
  • Blurred vision
  • Hives (itchy skin rash)
  • Joint pain
  • Muscle pain
  • Weight changes
  • Fever
  • Swelling in arms or legs
  • Depression
  • Breast enlargement in men
  • Disorientation (feeling confused about time and place)
  • Severe allergic reactions: swelling of the tongue and/or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, breathing problems, facial swelling, severe dizziness with fast heartbeat and sweating
  • Serious skin problems: blisters or peeling skin, sores in eyes, nose, mouth, or genitals, skin sensitive to sunlight, joint pain, flu-like symptoms (like fever and swollen glands)
  • Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), liver problems
  • Kidney problems: fever, rash, enlarged kidneys, painful urination, lower back pain, or kidney failure
  • Hallucinations, confusion (especially if you've had these before)
  • Muscle cramps due to salt imbalance in the body
  • Tingling, burning sensation, pins and needles, or numbness
  • Inflammation of the large bowel causing persistent watery diarrhea
  • Easy bleeding or bruising, more infections, extreme tiredness, shortness of breath, or paleness (due to changes in blood cells)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to pantoprazole or other similar medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver problems.
  • Using this medicine for a long time can lower vitamin B12 and magnesium levels, and may increase your risk of bone fractures.
  • Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially those for HIV, cancer, blood thinning, or depression, as this medicine can affect how they work.
  • Seek urgent medical help if you notice serious symptoms like unexplained weight loss, repeated vomiting, blood in your vomit or stool, difficulty swallowing, paleness, chest pain, stomach pain, or severe and persistent diarrhea.

  • If you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 12 years old.
  • If you feel dizzy or have vision problems, do not drive or use machines.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
