How to Use

Dosage

One 20 mg tablet per day.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water one hour before a meal. Do not chew or break it.

Important

Do not use for more than 4 weeks without consulting a doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Benign polyps in the stomach.
RARE
  • Headache, dizziness.
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, bloating, gas, constipation, dry mouth.
  • Skin rash, hives, itching.
  • Weakness, tiredness, general feeling of being unwell, sleep problems.
  • Fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine.
  • Increased liver enzyme values (seen in blood tests).
  • Changes in taste or loss of taste, blurred vision.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain.
  • Weight changes, fever, swelling in the arms or legs (peripheral edema).
  • Depression, confusion, disorientation, hallucinations (especially if previously experienced).
  • Enlarged breasts in men.
  • Changes in bilirubin and blood fat levels, severe decrease in white blood cells (with high fever) (seen in blood tests).
  • Decreased number of platelets (leading to easy bleeding or bruising), decreased white blood cells (leading to more infections), or decreased red and white blood cells and platelets simultaneously (leading to tiredness, shortness of breath, and paleness).
  • Muscle cramps due to electrolyte disturbances (changes in body salt balance), tingling, burning sensation, or numbness.
  • Inflammation of the large intestine (causing persistent watery diarrhea).
  • Lower than normal levels of sodium, magnesium, calcium, or potassium in the blood (seen in blood tests).
  • Jaundice (yellow skin/eyes), fever, rash, enlarged kidneys (sometimes with painful urination and lower back pain), kidney failure.
  • Swelling of the tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, trouble breathing, facial swelling, severe dizziness, fast heartbeat, heavy sweating (symptoms of severe allergic reaction).
  • Skin blisters, peeling skin, rashes, fever, flu-like symptoms, joint pain, swollen lymph nodes, red target-like or circular patches on the body with blisters in the middle, scaling skin, sores in the mouth, throat, nose, genitals, and eyes, widespread rash, high body temperature (symptoms of severe skin reaction).

Important Warnings

  • If you are allergic to pantoprazole, any other ingredients in this medicine, or other proton pump inhibitors, do not take this medicine.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you have symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, trouble breathing, facial swelling, severe dizziness, a very fast heartbeat, or heavy sweating.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you have symptoms of a severe skin reaction, such as skin blisters, peeling skin, rashes, fever, flu-like symptoms, joint pain, or swollen lymph nodes.
  • Contact a doctor immediately if you notice unexplained weight loss, repeated vomiting, vomiting blood (like coffee grounds), black or tarry stools, difficulty swallowing, paleness and weakness (anemia), chest pains, stomach pains, or severe or persistent diarrhea.
