How to Use

Dosage

One tablet (20 mg) daily.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water one hour before a meal, at the same time each day. Do not chew or crush it.

Important

Do not take more than 20 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Benign polyps in the stomach.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction: Swelling of tongue or throat, trouble swallowing, hives, trouble breathing, facial swelling, severe dizziness, rapid heartbeat, heavy sweating.
  • Serious skin reactions: Skin blistering or peeling, sores around mouth, eyes, nose, genitals, skin sensitive to sunlight, joint pain, flu-like symptoms (fever, swollen glands), or widespread rash with high fever.
  • Yellow skin or eyes, fever, rash (signs of liver problems).
  • Kidney problems: Enlarged kidneys, painful urination, or lower back pain.
  • Headache, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach bloating and gas, constipation, dry mouth, stomach pain or discomfort, rash, itching, feeling weak, tired or generally unwell, sleep problems.
  • Less common symptoms: Changes in taste or complete loss of taste, blurred vision, joint pain, muscle pain, weight changes, fever, swelling in arms and legs, depression, enlarged breasts in men, confusion about time and place (disorientation), hallucinations, tingling, prickling, numbness, or burning sensations.
  • Muscle cramps due to changes in body salt levels, colon inflammation causing persistent watery diarrhea.
  • Changes in blood tests: Increased liver enzymes, bilirubin and fat levels; or lower levels of sodium, magnesium, calcium, or potassium. Also, changes in blood cell counts like decreased platelets (may cause easy bleeding/bruising), decreased white blood cells (more infections), or combined decrease in red and white blood cells and platelets (fatigue, shortness of breath, paleness).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine for more than 4 weeks without talking to your doctor.
  • Do not take this medicine with other drugs that reduce stomach acid, like other proton pump inhibitors (e.g., omeprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole) or H2 blockers (e.g., ranitidine, famotidine).
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pantoprazole or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking drugs for HIV infection, such as atazanavir.

  • Do not give this medicine to children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • If your symptoms do not improve after 2 weeks or get worse, talk to your doctor.
  • If you notice any of the following serious symptoms, stop taking this medicine and see a doctor right away: unexplained weight loss, repeated vomiting, vomiting blood (looks like coffee grounds), black tarry stools, difficulty or pain when swallowing, feeling very pale and weak (signs of anemia), chest pain, stomach pain, severe and long-lasting diarrhea, severe skin reactions (blistering, peeling skin, sores, rash with fever), yellow skin or eyes, fever, rash (signs of liver problems), or kidney problems (enlarged kidneys, painful urination, lower back pain).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. For short-term use only. Consider the numerous potential interactions. Avoid long-term use. Long-term use carries an increased risk of adverse effects. Risk of hypomagnesemia in prolonged use. (updated 10.11.2025)
