How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the typical dose is 0.5-24 mg daily, and for children, it is 0.2-0.4 mg per kg of body weight daily. For COVID-19, adults and adolescents (12+ years, at least 40 kg) typically receive 7.89 mg once a day for up to 10 days.

Method

Pantadexa is given as an injection into a muscle or under the skin, or directly into a vein.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling depressed, having suicidal thoughts, feeling overly happy or having extreme mood swings, feeling anxious.
  • Having trouble sleeping or thinking, confusion, memory loss.
  • Seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not real, or having strange, frightening thoughts.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of face/lips/tongue/throat, fainting).
  • Stomach and gut issues (ulcers, indigestion, diarrhea, feeling sick, nausea, inflamed pancreas).
  • Fluid retention and changes in body salts (e.g., sodium, potassium, calcium imbalance).
  • Heart and blood problems (high blood pressure, blood clots, thick heart muscle in premature babies).
  • Bone and joint issues (thinning bones, fractures, tendon damage).
  • More frequent or worsening infections (like chickenpox, yeast infections).
  • Skin changes (slow wound healing, bruising, acne, increased sweating, injection site burning/swelling).
  • Eye problems (increased eye pressure, glaucoma, cataracts, infections, blurry vision, vision loss).
  • Hormonal changes (irregular periods, slow growth in children/teens, 'moon-like' face, diabetes effects, increased body hair, weight gain).
  • Nervous system issues (worsening seizures, severe headaches, insomnia, mood swings, worsening schizophrenia).
  • Increased white blood cells in the blood.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Pantadexa if you are allergic to dexamethasone or any other ingredients. Signs of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, or trouble breathing.
  • Tell your doctor if you have any infections, unstable joints, or if you have or have had kidney, liver, heart, or mental health problems, diabetes, thinning bones, glaucoma, stomach ulcers, epilepsy, migraines, or a tumor near your kidney called pheochromocytoma.
  • Never stop taking this medicine suddenly without your doctor's instructions, as it can be dangerous and worsen your condition or cause withdrawal symptoms like headache or muscle pain.
  • This medicine can hide the signs of an infection, and new infections may develop. Avoid contact with people who have chickenpox or measles if you haven't had them before.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision, other vision changes, or serious mood changes, including feeling depressed or anxious.
