How to Use

Dosage

For children (over 3 months), the dose is 15 mg per kilogram of body weight, up to 3 times a day. For children under 3 months, only use as directed by a doctor.

Method

Insert the suppository into the rectum.

Important

Do not use more than three doses per day. There should be at least 4 hours between doses.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Redness of the lining of the rectum.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions (rash, itching, trouble breathing, swelling of lips, tongue, throat, or face).
  • Skin peeling, skin rash, or blisters.
  • Sores in the mouth.
  • Breathing difficulties (if the child has previously had problems with aspirin or other anti-inflammatory pain medicines).
  • Blood changes, including unusual bleeding or bruising.
  • Severe condition where the blood becomes too acidic (metabolic acidosis), especially in very ill patients using paracetamol. Symptoms include severe trouble breathing, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting.

Important Warnings

  • Talk to a doctor if the child does not feel better or gets worse after three days.
  • Do not use if the child is allergic to paracetamol or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if the child has heart failure, liver, or kidney disease without a doctor's advice.
  • Panadol is for temporary use. If symptoms last a long time or come back often, contact a doctor.
  • Do not use other pain medicines at the same time without a doctor's order.

  • This medicine contains paracetamol. Too much can cause severe liver damage. Do not give the child other paracetamol-containing medicines at the same time.
  • Talk to a doctor if the child has liver or kidney problems, or if the child is underweight or malnourished.
  • If the child has severe breathing difficulties, drowsiness, nausea, or vomiting, contact a doctor immediately. These can be signs of a serious condition (metabolic acidosis).

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. The recommended maximum dose for long-term use is 2 grams per day. Can be used concurrently with warfarin only if INR values are monitored. Consider paracetamol in OTC drugs and combination products. Risk of poisoning with daily doses over 4 grams. (updated 14.4.2025)
