Panacod is a pain relief medication for moderate pain in adults and children over 12 years old when other painkillers alone are not enough.

How to Use

Dosage

For adults, 1-2 tablets/effervescent tablets 1-4 times daily. For children over 12 years, 1-2 tablets/effervescent tablets every 6 hours as needed.

Method

Tablets should be swallowed with water. Effervescent tablets should be dissolved in half a glass of water.

Important

Do not exceed 8 tablets/effervescent tablets in 24 hours for adults. Do not exceed 6 tablets/effervescent tablets in 24 hours for children over 12 years.

Possible Side Effects

  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Redness
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Rash
  • Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
  • Low white blood cell count (leukopenia)
  • Low neutrophil count (neutropenia)
  • Agranulocytosis (severe lack of white blood cells)
  • Hypersensitivity reactions, such as anaphylactic shock and angioedema (severe allergic reactions)
  • Bronchospasm (tightening of the airways)
  • Respiratory depression (slow and shallow breathing)
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Vomiting
  • Dry mouth
  • Biliary tract disorders
  • Liver damage
  • Liver inflammation, potentially leading to acute liver failure
  • Severe skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, and fixed drug eruption
  • Itching
  • Urinary retention (difficulty passing urine)
  • Hemolytic anemia (accelerated breakdown of red blood cells)
  • Confusion
  • Anxiety (dysforia)
  • Feeling of well-being (euphoria)
  • Convulsions

  • Drowsiness

  • Sedation
  • Miosis (pupil constriction)
  • Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension)
  • Severe condition that can increase blood acidity (metabolic acidosis) in patients with severe illness using paracetamol

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to paracetamol, codeine, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose or take other paracetamol-containing medicines at the same time.
  • Avoid alcohol use as it can cause drowsiness, breathing difficulties, coma, or even death.
  • Stop taking the medicine and contact a doctor immediately if you develop a worsening rash with blisters or mucosal lesions.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease or bile duct problems.

  • Do not use for pain relief in children (0-18 years) after tonsil or adenoid removal due to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
  • Do not use if you have a respiratory illness or condition that makes breathing difficult, or if you have an acute asthma attack.
  • Do not use if your body converts codeine to morphine very quickly.
  • Do not use if you are about to give birth or are at risk of premature birth, or if you are breastfeeding.
  • Frequent use of painkillers for headaches or migraines can cause headaches that should not be treated by increasing the dose. Do not continue using painkillers without a doctor's advice.
  • Codeine can cause dependence if used in high doses and for a long time. To reduce withdrawal symptoms, use should be gradually stopped after long-term treatment.
  • Use codeine with caution in children, adolescents, or patients who have previously misused medicines and/or alcohol.
  • Children under 12 years of age should not take Panacod due to the risk of severe breathing difficulties.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. The recommended maximum dose for long-term use is 2 grams per day. Can be used concurrently with warfarin only if INR values are monitored. Consider paracetamol in OTC drugs and combination products. Risk of poisoning with daily doses over 4 grams. (updated 14.4.2025)
