Pamifos 3 mg/ml is a medicine that helps regulate bone function, lowers high blood calcium caused by cancer, and prevents bone breakdown in certain cancer conditions.

How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is between 15 mg and 90 mg per treatment cycle.

Method

Pamifos 3 mg/ml is given slowly as an infusion (drip) into a vein after it has been diluted.

Important

The maximum dose per treatment cycle is 90 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Flu-like symptoms, mild fever (body temperature increase of 1-2°C), tiredness, chills, fatigue, flushing.
  • Low calcium and phosphate levels in the blood.
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia).
  • Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia).
  • Low white blood cell count (lymphocytopenia).
  • Low potassium and magnesium levels in the blood.
  • Symptoms due to low blood calcium (tingling in skin, muscle cramps or spasms).
  • Headache.
  • Sleeplessness (insomnia) and drowsiness.
  • Eye inflammation (conjunctivitis).
  • High blood pressure (hypertension).
  • Stomach and gut reactions like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite (anorexia), stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, and stomach inflammation (gastritis).
  • Rash.
  • Bone, joint, or muscle pain episodes.
  • Pain, rash, and swelling at the infusion site, inflammation or blood clot in an arm vein, general body pain.
  • High creatinine levels in the blood.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions, including wheezing, trouble breathing, or sudden swelling of your eyelids, lips, or tongue.
  • Seizures or feeling restless.
  • Dizziness or feeling very tired and apathetic.
  • Eye problems, such as inflammation inside the eye, low blood pressure in the eye, abnormal yellow vision, or inflammation in the eye socket.
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Itching all over the body.
  • Jaw bone damage (osteonecrosis).
  • Kidney problems, including reduced urine, abnormal kidney test values, worsening kidney disease, kidney inflammation, or changes in kidney function with fluid retention, nausea, tiredness, or protein in urine with swollen legs and belly.
  • Abnormal liver test values.
  • Unusual thigh bone fracture.
  • Recurrence of old infections, such as cold sores or shingles.
  • Very low white blood cell count (leukopenia).
  • High potassium or sodium levels in the blood.
  • Confusion, disorientation, and visual hallucinations (seeing things that aren't there).
  • Worsening heart failure with breathing difficulties, or irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation).
  • Severe lung problems, including acute respiratory distress syndrome or lung inflammation.
  • Ear pain, ear infection, or discharge from the ear, which could be signs of ear bone damage.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to pamidronate disodium, other bisphosphonate medicines, or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist immediately if you have pain, swelling, or numbness in your jaw, or if a tooth feels loose. These could be signs of jaw bone damage.
  • Avoid dental surgery during treatment. If you need dental work, tell your dentist you are taking this medicine.
  • If you develop a sudden itchy rash, swelling of your hands, feet, ankles, face, lips, mouth, or throat, or have difficulty swallowing or breathing, tell your doctor immediately as this could be a severe allergic reaction.

  • Do not drive or use machines if you feel sleepy or dizzy after an infusion, or if the medicine affects your ability to drive or use machines.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience pain, weakness, or discomfort in your thigh, hip, or groin, as these could be early signs of a rare thigh bone fracture.
