How to Use

Dosage

For adults, the usual dose is 250 micrograms. For children and adolescents (1 month to 17 years), the doctor will determine the dose based on body weight, up to a maximum of 1500 micrograms.

Method

A doctor or nurse will give the medicine as an injection or slow infusion into a vein, usually about 30 minutes before your chemotherapy treatment begins.

Important

This medicine is usually given as a single dose for each chemotherapy cycle. The maximum is 250 micrograms for adults, and up to 1500 micrograms for children and adolescents.

  • High or low blood pressure
  • Abnormal heart rate
  • Not enough blood flowing to the heart
  • Veins changing color or getting bigger
  • Abnormal levels of potassium in the blood (too high or too low)
  • High blood sugar or sugar in your urine
  • Low calcium levels in the blood
  • High levels of bilirubin in the blood
  • High levels of certain liver enzymes
  • Feeling too happy or restless
  • Feeling sleepy or having trouble sleeping
  • Not wanting to eat or loss of appetite
  • Weakness, tiredness, fever, or flu-like symptoms
  • Numbness, burning, prickling, or itching feeling on the skin
  • Itchy rash or hives
  • Blurred vision or eye irritation
  • Motion sickness
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Hiccups, gas, dry mouth, or indigestion
  • Stomach pain
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Joint pain
  • Changes in heart tracing (ECG)
  • Severe allergic reactions (signs may include swelling of lips, face, tongue or throat, trouble breathing, fainting, or itchy skin rash)
  • Burning or pain at the injection site
  • Uncontrolled body movements
  • Cough or trouble breathing
  • Nosebleeds

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to palonosetron or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a sudden bowel blockage or have often had constipation.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines that can affect your heart rhythm.
  • Tell your doctor if you or someone in your family has had abnormal heart rhythms (prolonged QT interval).
  • Tell your doctor if you have other heart problems.

  • Tell your doctor if you have untreated abnormal levels of certain salts (like potassium or magnesium) in your blood.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or tiredness. Do not drive or use machines if you experience these effects.
  • This medicine is not recommended for use in the days following chemotherapy, unless a new chemotherapy cycle is about to begin.
