Palmeux is an antipsychotic medicine used for long-term treatment of schizophrenia symptoms in adults, helping to reduce symptoms and prevent their return.

How to Use

Dosage

The first dose is 150 mg, followed by 100 mg one week later. After that, the dose is 25-150 mg once a month.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection into your arm or buttock by a doctor or nurse.

Important

The maximum single dose per injection is 150 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Trouble falling asleep or restless sleep.
COMMON
  • Flu-like symptoms, urinary tract infection, feeling like you have the flu.
  • Increased levels of a hormone called prolactin (can cause breast swelling, erection problems, or other sexual issues in men; breast discomfort, milk discharge, missed periods, or other menstrual cycle issues in women).
  • High blood sugar, weight gain, weight loss, decreased appetite.
  • Irritability, depression, anxiety.
  • Parkinsonism (slow movements, stiff muscles, tremors, increased saliva, drooling, mask-like face).
  • Restlessness, drowsiness, decreased alertness.
  • Dystonia (slow or long-lasting involuntary muscle spasms, often affecting the face, eyes, mouth, tongue, or jaw).
  • Dizziness.
  • Involuntary movements (uncontrolled muscle movements like repeated, spastic, twisting, or jerking movements).
  • Tremor.
  • Headache.
  • Fast heart rate.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Cough, stuffy nose.
  • Stomach pain, vomiting, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, toothache.
  • Increased liver enzymes in blood.
  • Bone or muscle pain, back pain, joint pain.
  • Missed periods.
  • Milk discharge from breasts.
  • Fever, weakness, tiredness (fatigue).
  • Injection site reactions (e.g., itching, pain, or swelling).
RARE
  • Pneumonia, bronchitis, respiratory infection, sinus infection, bladder infection, ear infection, nail fungus infection, tonsillitis, skin infection.
  • Decreased white blood cell count, decreased infection-fighting white blood cells, decreased platelets (blood cells that stop bleeding), anemia.
  • Allergic reaction.
  • New or worsening diabetes, increased blood insulin levels.
  • Increased appetite.
  • Loss of appetite leading to malnutrition and weight loss.
  • High blood triglycerides (fats), high blood cholesterol.
  • Sleep problems, elevated mood (mania), decreased sex drive, nervousness, nightmares.
  • Tardive dyskinesia (jerky or repetitive uncontrolled movements of the face, tongue, or other body parts).
  • Fainting, strong urge to move a body part, dizziness when standing, difficulty concentrating, speech problems, loss or change of taste, reduced sensation to pain/touch, tingling, prickling, or numbness of the skin.
  • Blurred vision, eye infection or red eyes, dry eyes.
  • Spinning sensation (vertigo), ringing in ears, ear pain.
  • Heart conduction problems, prolonged QT interval on ECG, fast heart rate when standing, slow heart rate, abnormal ECG, fluttering or pounding in chest (palpitations).
  • Low blood pressure, low blood pressure when standing up (may cause weakness, dizziness, or fainting when quickly standing up).
  • Shortness of breath, congested airways, wheezing, sore throat, nosebleed.
  • Abdominal discomfort, stomach or intestinal inflammation, difficulty swallowing, dry mouth, excessive gas.
  • Increased GGT (liver enzyme) levels in blood, increased liver enzyme levels in blood.
  • Hives, itching, rash, hair loss, eczema, dry skin, skin redness, acne.
  • Increased levels of creatine phosphokinase (an enzyme related to muscle breakdown) in blood.
  • Muscle cramps, stiff joints, muscle weakness, neck pain.
  • Urinary incontinence, frequent urge to urinate, painful urination.
  • Erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorders, missed periods or other menstrual cycle problems in women, breast development in men, sexual dysfunction, breast pain.
  • Swelling of face, mouth, eyes, or lips; swelling of body, arms, or legs.
  • Increased body temperature.
  • Changes in walking.
  • Chest pain, chest discomfort, feeling unwell.
  • Hardening of skin.
  • Falls.
RARE
  • Tick-borne skin infection, abscess under the skin.
  • Increased eosinophils (a type of white blood cell) in blood.
  • Inappropriate secretion of a hormone that regulates urine volume.
  • Sugar in urine.
  • Life-threatening complications of uncontrolled diabetes.
  • Low blood sugar.
  • Excessive water drinking.
  • Immobility and unresponsiveness while awake (catatonia).
  • Confusion.
  • Sleepwalking.
  • Lack of emotions.
  • Inability to have an orgasm.
  • Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (confusion, reduced or lost consciousness, high fever, severe muscle stiffness), cerebrovascular disorders (including stroke), unresponsiveness to stimuli, loss of consciousness, reduced consciousness, seizures, balance disorders.
  • Abnormal coordination.
  • Glaucoma (increased pressure inside the eyeball).
  • Eye movement problems, eye rolling, light sensitivity, increased tear production, red eyes.
  • Atrial fibrillation (an abnormal heart rhythm), irregular heart rhythm.
  • Blood clots in veins, especially in legs (swelling, pain, redness in legs).
  • Flushing (feeling of warmth and redness of the skin).
  • Difficulty breathing during sleep (sleep apnea).
  • Increased blood volume (blood congestion) in lungs.
  • Crackling breath sounds.
  • Pancreatitis, swollen tongue, fecal incontinence, very hard stool.
  • Chapped lips.
  • Drug rash, thickened skin, dandruff.
  • Muscle fiber breakdown and muscle pain (rhabdomyolysis).
  • Joint swelling.
  • Inability to urinate.
  • Breast discomfort, enlarged breast glands, breast enlargement.
  • Vaginal discharge.
  • Very low body temperature, chills, feeling thirsty.
  • Withdrawal symptoms.
  • Abscess at injection site, deep skin infection, cyst at injection site, bruise at injection site.
  • Dangerously low levels of certain white blood cells needed to fight infection.
  • Severe allergic reactions with symptoms like fever, swelling of mouth, face, lips or tongue, difficulty breathing, itching, rash, and sometimes low blood pressure.
  • Dangerously excessive water drinking.
  • Sleep-related eating disorder.
  • Coma due to uncontrolled diabetes.
  • Head tremor.
  • Blood clot in lungs, causing chest pain and breathing difficulties.
  • Lack of oxygen in some body parts (due to poor circulation).
  • Rapid, shallow breathing, pneumonia from inhaling food, voice disorders.
  • Bowel obstruction, stop in bowel movements, causing blockage.
  • Yellowing of skin and eyes (jaundice).
  • Severe or life-threatening rash with blisters and peeling skin, potentially starting in mouth, nose, eyes, and genital area (Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis).
  • Severe allergic reaction with throat swelling and breathing difficulties.
  • Skin discoloration, flaky itchy skin or scalp.
  • Abnormal postures.
  • Babies born to mothers using Palmeux during pregnancy may have withdrawal symptoms like irritability, slow or long-lasting muscle contractions, tremors, drowsiness, breathing problems, or feeding difficulties.
  • Priapism (prolonged erection that may require surgery).
  • Decreased body temperature.
  • Skin cell death at injection site, injection site ulcers.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to paliperidone, risperidone, or any other ingredients.
  • This medicine has not been studied in elderly patients with dementia, who may have an increased risk of stroke or death with similar medicines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of Parkinson's disease, high fever with stiff muscles (neuroleptic malignant syndrome), uncontrolled face/tongue movements (tardive dyskinesia), low white blood cell count, diabetes, breast cancer, heart problems, low blood pressure, epilepsy, kidney or liver problems, prolonged painful erection, issues with body temperature, high prolactin levels, or blood clots.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience a severe allergic reaction, such as rash, throat swelling, itching, or difficulty breathing, as these can be life-threatening.
  • Your weight and blood sugar will be checked regularly during treatment, as this medicine can cause weight gain and affect blood sugar levels.

  • If you are having eye surgery, tell your eye doctor that you are using this medicine, as it can cause problems during surgery.
  • Avoid alcohol while using this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without discussing it with your doctor.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, extreme tiredness, or vision problems, so be careful when driving or operating machinery.
