How to Use

Dosage

The first dose is 150 mg, the second dose is 100 mg one week later, followed by monthly doses ranging from 25 mg to 150 mg, adjusted by your doctor.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection into the muscle of your upper arm or buttock. It should not be given into a vein or under the skin.

The maximum monthly dose is 150 mg, and your doctor will adjust the dose based on your symptoms.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
  • Slow movements, stiff muscles, shaking, increased saliva, or a blank facial expression
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Pain, itching, or swelling at the injection site
  • Stomach pain, vomiting, or nausea
  • Weight gain
  • Slow or long-lasting muscle spasms, often in the face, causing unusual postures
RARE
  • Blood clots, especially in the legs (swelling, pain, redness) or lungs (chest pain, breathing problems)
  • Abnormal or very slow heart rhythm
  • New or worsening diabetes
  • Seizures
  • Severe allergic reaction (fever, swelling of mouth/face/lips/tongue, shortness of breath, itching, rash)
  • Dangerously low levels of certain white blood cells needed to fight infections
  • A long-lasting and painful erection that may require medical attention
  • Blurred vision, eye inflammation, or dry eyes
  • Problems with kidney or liver function
  • Sudden changes in mental state, weakness or numbness (signs of stroke)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to paliperidone or risperidone, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you notice signs of blood clots, such as swelling, pain, or redness in your leg, or chest pain and trouble breathing.
  • Get immediate medical help if you have a high fever, very stiff muscles, sweating, or confusion.
  • Tell your doctor if you have uncontrolled movements of your tongue, mouth, or face; your treatment might need to be stopped.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding without first talking to your doctor.
